IWD before IWDII or does it matter?

Should I play IWD before I play IWDII? I know the story element is not as strong as BGI-BGII, but will I miss out on some things by playing them out of order?

There are minor reasons to play IWDI before IWDII. It does not really matter, and will not hurt your game in any way...but your game's story line will mean more if you follow the order...I would go in order, just for the story's sake. Again...you will not lose any game experience by not doing so.

What was it that is quoted in LotR?

Do not seek guidance from the elves...they will say both yes and no!

I never completed Icewind Dale I, and I understood all the story in Icewind Dale II. You don't have to play IWDI if you don't feel like it.

Thank you for the guidance - one more question - will I want to play IWD after IWDII?

Or will I have had my fill of the frigid north?

If it is likely that improvements in IWDII will sour me on going back to IWD later, then I definetly want to finish IWD first.

IWDII is superior to IWDI. It is also in 3rd Ed D&D...where IWDI is 2nd Ed. Still, I think you will enjoy playing IWDI after IWDII. IWDI is still a great game. It is not like comparing BG to BGII. After BGII...I could never go back to BGI. It was too old. IWDI and IWDII are not that far apart from one another.
