Ok I have an Aasimar Monk, currently level 8/rogue 1. He consistantly takes a pounding, his average damage is crap, and his total kills is around 14%. I am seriously considering dumping him and making a ranger/rogue and nursing him up to a survivable level. Whats so good about them? Please enlighten me!!!!!!!

Hmm not sure what is wrong with your monk. I have a teifling one myself and she is my best fighter. Her AC is the highest and she has the most kills including the crystal golems. When I started her I gave he a high dex and wis for AC. She is using no armor or weapons and is hardly ever encumbered. What are the stats on your monk?

My monk continues to suck pondwater. I named him Hacky Chan but should have named him Gilligan. He has a 17 strength and cant hit anything. And if he does his damage is crap. I'm about to fire him in Aurils temple, hope he has good luck getting home lol

Monks definitely take some finesse to get anywhere. I'd recommend making them Human, as the extra feat at first always helps, and you get no level penalties as with an Aasimar. I've got mine set up with
14 str
16 dex
14 con
10 int
18 wis
8 or 10 Cha

She is using no armor, or weapons. only a couple of rings and a hat maybe. she's now level 10, with about 18% of party kills... My sorceress has the most, and my dual wielding ranger/druid has 2nd. The monk is good to wade into a fight and put the pressure on while more heavily armored allies take the beating.

Best thing about a monk is Level 20...-20 damage reduction and requires a +1 weapon to hit. This means almost nothing short of an enemy boss is gonna hurt him.

Until then though they are super-underpowered fighters.

Level 20 ?? In a 6 peep party, the monk will only reach level 20 in chapter 2 / heart of fury. By then every one and his mother will have at least +1 weapons!

At that point I'd rather have a level 20 barbarian than a level 20 monk. At least the barb wouldn't have sucked for 19 levels.

I'll just say it once more. The monk is BRILLIANT! What you need in order to play one is some strategy. At least in the beggining levels. The monk is utterly unbalanced in the game, starts out VERY weak, but BECOMES the most powerful character. Just take care of him/her in the beginning and later he/she will take care of all your other characters. All you need is to start with hight DEX and WIS. In time the monk becomes virtually untouchable. I am so sorry that you dropped the monk, Alcohol, you missed out on a veritable killing machine.
