IMHO Sorc is waaaaaay better than wizard, even a specialist. What gives? What evens them up? talk!

Well, wizards learn spells from scrolls, so there's an endless possibility of combinations of what you can have available. With Sorcs. you have to pick wisely...And since wizards have high Intelligence, they get more skill points and that is quite beneficial. I doagree with you though, Sorcerors are more powerful.

Plus the fact that they don't have to buy or learn spells, they know them at level-up. They also get bonus spells and can cast more. I also like the cool thing on how they cast them, by levels. And they have lower penalties.

Sorcerer wins hands down. He "knows" spells and he can cast them multiple times. I remember similar discussions at BG II forums. Sorcerer won anytime.

Why? Why!? WHY!!!!!!!!!!??????
Why did they have to make him so powerfull and not touch the mage. When i got the game i wanted to play a party with a necromancer as the main spellcaster, but i saw the sorc and i took him in also. Damn, did he go superior on my necro. I used to think that necro is god but this... holy creator!

Sorcerers are more powerful, but wizards are better for some multiclasses, such as rogue. Because they use intelligence, they can get huge skillpoints, which means better feats and skills. Pure sorcerer will beat pure wizard everytime, but a rogue(1)/wizard(X) is incredibly useful, and still immensely powerful.

Take both!
In my current game I have both a pure wizard and and a pure sorceress. The sorceress is essentially the party's missile silo, launching offensive spell after offensive spell, whereas the wizard learns the intricate, delecately-pinpointed spells specific to various situations. WHat I like about my wizard is that I can chop and change my memorized spells to fit any given encounter (ie, dememorize breath spells in favour of fire spells when fighting against undead, vice versa when fighting living creatures), something that I can't do with the sorceress. A wizard is more versatile, while a sorcerer packs more punch. They are both incredibly handy to have.

As always you have to be careful when picking spells for a Sorcerer. A Wizard can make a mistake, but a Sorcerer cannot.

You definitely have to be careful what spells you choose. I have a Bard, which has the same system as a Sorc, and chose some awful spells. I end up using only about one of my spells for each level.
Has anyone seen a recomendation site for what spells to pick for a Sorc and/or Bard? I know of Dundee's Sorc spell list for BG2, but I assume that doesn't really apply to IWDII? |
