What's the best weapon in Icewind Dale? What's the best armor? I'm going to go buy Icewind Dale today and I want to know what to look for.

Well, the best weapon is a longsword called "Pale Justice", but only Paladins can use it. As for the armour, there isn't really one great piece, but the "Bathed in Blood" and the "black Swan" are both really good. You aren't going to see either until the end of the game.
I would recomend installing the HoW expansion as well because it adds some items to the available list, as well as some good spells and abilities. ------------------ You wore out your welcome with random precision. |

well, Pale justice is arguably the "best" weapon in the respect that it can do +7.. but mere thaco is not the only measure of a weapon. I like the Hammer Flail +4 (in HoW) because it's not only a +4 but stuns the enemy 20% of the time. A stunned enemy is easy pickings cuz every attack on them succeeds no matter how lame you roll; and some creatures such a trolls can be defeated while stunned (no fire necessary!)

I disagree, i think that the Bastard Sword of Greater Phasing is a very good sword and also the Long Flaming Sword +1 is a good sword too. I also like the Faith Killer for my Dwarfs |

The Long Sword +4 of Action is brilliant. +1 AC, and +1 attack. Gave my fighter five (count 'em) attacks a round. Why bother with haste when you can't get any more attacks than that.

Well, there's a Shocking Flail +4 which has 50% chance of 2D3 electrical damage, as well as a 20% chance of Stunning which is very good.
There's also a Morning Star of Action +4, which is similar to the sword giving one additional attack, but this baby also has a 15% chance to Stun. (There's also a Static Star +3 which is similar and a weapon called Three White Doves which is an undead killer. ![]() Demon's Breath is a fantastic weapon, +3 with a 20% chance to cast fireball, 50% chance of 2D3 additional fire damage and +50% fire resistance. The WarHammer +4 Defender gives a AC bonus of 2, and 15% resistance to slashing/crushing/piercing/and magic. You also get +3 v spells! Overall, the Blunt Weapon Fraternity have really done well in this game. There are even some outstanding clubs - I know hard to believe isn't it. The only problem is that you can only get some of them late into the expansions, or if they're random items. Reloading an area after a tough fight (possibly for no extra gain) can be real tough on your morale. I know. Hope that helps Subotai ![]() ------------------ Making running away an art form |

I think the Twohanded sword +4, Lifegiver is pretty good.
It's a +4 2handedsword( dmg 1d10+4, thaco +4) and it gives you superfast regeneration and a chance to heal 10hp on a successfull hit. The regeneration is really cool... |

I find that the weapons with fire attributes work really well, especially against the many trolls you will encounter.
Flaming swords ( I have found +1, +2, and +3 versions)some are uniques Fire flail +3 (an excellent weapon for your cleric, I have found three of these weapons. One in IWD, one in HoW ,and another in TotL. Also, save all weapons with +3 attributes or higher for back up weapons. You may find that you need them |

It's difficult to choose a 'best' weapon in IWD - so many of them are good.
But many items & item locations are randomized, they won't necessarily all come up during the course of your game. ------------------ ![]() ![]() Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.
