hey everyone,

a simple fighter question here.

Does fighter melee damage level up with the fighter? or is it always reliant on weapons and damage adjustment items?

a level 40 fighter with a longsword will do more damage than a level 1 fighter with the same sword

Only because he will hit more often. On a per blow basis the damage should be the same.

the kensai fighter kit gets progressive bonus to damage and the archer (ranger) get progressive damage to missile attack damage but that's it

Swashbucklers are the other class to get frequent bonuses to hit and damage as they progress through the levels. The other damage differences between a very low level character and a higher level character are down to weapon proficiencies. Grandmastery provides a slight damage boost over being specialised, and the "2 handed weapon style" proficiency grants a slight +1 bonus to damage. Other than that it's how Desuma Malevois explained - damage per round will increase with certain levels, but the damage per swing should be constant (excluding equipment).
