That's easy: The "best of the best" character is an Elven Fighter/Cleric/Mage/Thief with stats of 25/25/25/25/25/25 and 500 hitpoints.

If you're talking about realistic characters, on the other hand, there is no such thing.

I would be tempted to say 'Archer', and the Kensai/Mage has long been a favourite of many players. But research has shown the human Berserker dualled to a Cleric is the most powerful, when you dual class at tenth level (If I recall correctly, that is )

Gee, Morgan_Corbesant, I would have thought that a member of the Scout/Sniper Association would have a special place in his heart for the Archer, BG2's sniper.

I think that the best answer is the best class is the one you enjoy playing the most. I always have a fondness for playing paladins.

Mages/Socerors just don't do it for me. I'll usually have 1 or 1.5 of them in my party, but mostly to support my tanks. But that's just my personal preference.

I played an archer once. They are seriously kick-ass characters. My biggest problem was that I tend to really get into the role and I like to really be the leader of the party and I found it hard to lead from the rear. I like my paladin to be leading the charge into battle, yelling for "FOR GOOD AND HONOR!!!" (or something like that.) Heck, I was the same way when I played a swashbuckler. My PC just couldn't hide behind the tanks.

Regardless, the answer is play what suits you best. If you like being sneaky, play a thief or maybe a Stalker. If kung-fu suits you, play a monk. I think you get the point. Furthermore, unless you're playing different classes just for the fun, you'll probably enjoy yourself more if you play a character that suits you. You'll be able to live and fight the way you want to, not simply what suits the character class.

Huh--I myself am going to be using a Berserker->Cleric as my next Tank (with an Undead Hunter as backup Tank), but I'm not going to Dual him until a few levels into ToB, so I can get him Greater Whirlwind. Doesn't he still have room to reach his full Cleric capabilities?

About the Kensai->Mage: I tend to prefer Fighter->Mage myself, because I like bows so much. But I don't like the way you can Dual FROM a kit, but not TO a kit--it just doesn't make sense. That's like saying I can change careers; from a dentist to an auto mechanic, but I can't change from a dentist to a GERMAN auto mechanic.
I feel that you should be allowed to Dual to a kit IF you didn't pick a kit for your first class, so that, say, Fighter->Conjurer is a valid class. How do you folks feel--is it fair to Shadowkeeper in a 2nd class kit?

Cernd is the best of the best character. Discussion over.

Six: Yes, I think it's fair to SK a second kit... If all you're doing is circumventing what seems to be a flaw in the game, why not?

Hmm.

The 'best' at what? The most powerful characters are probably:

Kensai/Mage
Assassin/Fighter
Cleric/Mage
Sorcerer
Wizardslayer/Thief

Up to you to choose which one you want to play depending on your preferred style.
