Varying degrees of SPOILERS ahead!
First, the easy one. I've run across the spells Contingency and Spell Trigger (or sequencer, something like that) but can't write them. Imoen or Aerie can't write them either. I'm not specialized, so what's the problem? Spellhold- on the way to the room with the minotaur statue, you go through a room with four globes set into the walls. When you activate any one of them you get a message that says the mosaic in the center of the room has shifted and you might be able to fix it or stand on it. I did, again and again, and nothing happened. What's the deal with that room? Aerie- I've had issues with her before. I unintentionally romanced her, broke up with her, missed her, and invited her back. Things have been ok since we agreed to be friends. Now girlfriend Aerie seems to be back, because she has issues with the people I hang out with- specifically, Korgan. I took a nap yesterday and woke to find them going at it again. Korgan said something she didn't like and she left again. I don't think I'm going to want her back again now that I have Imoen, but losing the restore spell has me a little worried. Who would be a good replacement? Currently in my party is a fighter/mage (me), Minsc, Viconia, Korgan, and Imoen. Lymond

Korgan and Aerie don't get along that well. IIRC it's not romance specific, but just a banter between the NPC's. In the same line Keldorn and Viconia don't get along quite well either.
Spellhold: if you can't get further then it's important. If you can, then it's not I can't really remember what floor you're talking (I do know *where* you are) so I don't know if it's that important. Spells: what do you mean, you can't write them in your spellbook? It fails, or you there's no "Write" button available? |

All I know, is that by "avtivating" each globe, you get a different spell cast on the char using them. Like heal, haste, etc. IIRC

Aerie - I said I had Viconia in my party, but I just remembered it's Jaheira. Should I get Viconia? Do I need a cleric in the party at higher levels?
Spellhold - for me, it was the second to last level; the same level as the boot machine and the picture walls. The mosaic in the room is circular, but doesn't seem to do anything. I looked at a walkthrough, but it showed nothing for that room, either. Spells - no write button available. I've been able to write other spells of that level, so I thought it might work differently, like you only need to cast it once.

1. you could go get Viconia since you don't have a cleric in your party. Do you NEED a cleric or not is a tricky question looking at the fact that so many people go soloing these days (that is, none of the class is absolutely necessary to go through the game). Holy Smite is certainly a nice spell to have, but you have Korgan as tank, that'll seriously limit the use of the spell.
2. I'm not sure which room you're talking about. There's a room in which you take the pictures from; everytime you take a picture from the wall, you'll get attack by spells. If not this room, there's a bizzare "healing" room (prior to your meeting with Bodhi again)...there's really nothing to it. 3. Sounds like a bug (or not I'm not sure; once my Kenasi ->Mage couldn't write the Stoneskin spell we found in the game). Try CLUA in a spell and try again.

Hint: The globes cast spells on a character. The spells cast manifest on the mosaic.
If you can't figure it out from there, then read... . . . . . . . . . . . You need to have a character stand on the mosaic and then activate a globe. It'll cast a spell on the character. Be warned, although one is healing and another haste, I believe that a few aren't quite so nice.

Getting along without a true Cleric is a pain, though quite doable, especially since Jaheira has a few extra spells unavailable to real Druids (such as Harper's Call), and so can pretend to be a Cleric in a pinch. What you really should never be without is a Rod of Resurrection and a few Restoration scrolls. This is especially relevant for you, as soon enough you will be forced to spend a good deal of time in an area that contains NO TEMPLES. Consider yourself warned.
One possible solution to the "Can't scribe these spells" issue is that you, Aerie, and Imoen might be of insufficient Intelligence to scribe every spell--the number of spells (per level) you can write to your spellbook depends on INT. Now think about what you can do to fix this (if you really want to, I've never really cared for the Sequencer/Contingency type spells). You need TWO people to operate the room with the mosaic floor: One to stand on the circle in the middle of the room (who will be the recipient of the spell), and one to touch the globes.

INT shouldn't be the problem since it's the absence of the "write" button on the spell description screen. If it were because of the Insufficient INT, Aerie or Imoen could still "wrtie" (though unsccessfully) the spell; the game will indicate that they've learned the max amount of spells of particular spell level.
The time I encountered the problem, my Kenasi-> Mage had 19 INT, but he couldn't write Stoneskin (well, there aren't many worthy spells at the 4th level and so the max amount wasn't the issue). Then I CULAed in a stoneskin scroll...he could write it. [ 05-05-2004, 03:21 PM: Message edited by: teardropmina ]

I had a problem one time when I couldn't make anyone write a flaming arrow spell. Make sure they don't already know it! It sounds silly, but it made me very fustrated when none of my mages could learn the spell and it turned out I had already taught them but forgot!

Are you using any mods?
I remember playing BGT and Dynaheir could not scribe some spells because they were of her second opposing school (YES you do have TWO opposing schools actually). However this shouldn't be the case with BG2 and certainly not with generic mages.
