the different persective thread got me thinking, How many of us were famillar w/ d&d before playing bg(or another bioware game)?
I was I got the dungeon masters guide and players guide for free from my uncle and read them(although i've never played pnp)eventually i bought the monster manual which was great to read even though i never planned on playing pnp.

Nope, never even heard of D&D before BG. Now though, i think i'd be able to play P&P D&D fairly well. I know most of the rules (granted, some of these will change between computer and P&P) so it should be fun to try one day. Its just a pity that none of my friends like D&D

I was kinda familiar with the first-edition rules of D&D, but I've never played in anyway until BG2. I've always wanted to try, but I've never known anyone that would play. I don't think I'd have the time now, but hey, I've made time for lots of other things, so who knows what would happen if I had the opprotunity.

Well, I knew some of the Goldbox games, but that was it. Then, I couldn´t imagine better tutorial to AD&D than Baldur´s Gate.

Well back in grade 7 we had a ad&d club at school and one of the teachers was into it. She would make up the dungeons and we would get to play are charcters through them. But that was a very long time ago.
I just figured out why I was beat up in school.

I had been playing P&P D&D since 1990. I think for those of us who had been hardcore fans of AD&D and D&D there was an added sense of awe in seeing the best RPG rendered into the Infinity Engine within these games.
To simply see your character fire twin magic missles or cast cure light wounds on another was, for me amazing. This is the stuff we had only been able to *imagine* up till now. There comes a great sense of appreciation to what has been done here.Yes there were some early attempts at making D&D a PC game (we all remember the DOS based Pool of Darkness and Hillsfar) but with Baldurs Gate they came pretty close to..well perfection! ![]()

BG1, then BG2 are my only two things that I've done even close to AD&D. No one that I know of actually play PnP, or even have played it...but I'd like to at least once, just so I can understand BG that much more.
