As I told you, my brother somehow got the Dark Side items without starting a new game. This has somewhat spoiled his game, so I am going to put Dark Side on hold and play BG2.

If I uninstall Dark Side, will his game be fine? Will it go back to his TotSC standard? Any crashes? Still playable??

Answer ASAP,

*L*

*Please* don't act on my word alone--but if I recall right, (on my pc) I can uninstall DSotSC without touching BG/ToSC. Shouldn't screw anything up except the new items will be gone as well as the extra NPCs, I imagine.

But then, there are other folks here who have more xp than myself in these matters, I'm sure.

You might still have problems as the world map will be updated in any saved games that you made after DSotSc was installed and items that are DSotsC only will cause glitches once DSotSC s removed.

If your brother still has pre-DSotSC saved games, you might have to back up and use one of those - hopefully they weren't altered when DSotSC was installed. Any saved games after DSotSC are probably going to crash the system. (That's just a guess but its akin to playing HOW saved games with HOW installed - they don't work).

He hasnt been to any Dark Side areas, and if he dropped ALL dark side items, then would it still crash?

I had a number of headaches with DS recently myself. I was trying to go back and forth between my DS games and regular Tales games using the DS uninstaller/reinstaller. I was using an older version of DS and it wasn't uninstalling cleanly, and had also affected non-DS games I had started after uninstalling DS. In those games I was getting stacking of 50 arrows, the DS logo appeared at the top of the lefthand menu column, etc., even after uninstalling DS. Long story short, I ended up burning all my DS saved games to a disk, deleted the DS saved games from my HD, and did a complete uninstall of DS and BG1/Tales both. I then reinstalled BG1/Tales. Initially my plan was to then reinstall the newest version of DS (v.1.0.3B) which uses the superior Nullsoft uninstaller. With that improved DS uninstaller/reinstaller I might then be able go back and forth between DS and non-DS games. But instead I decided to put all the DS games on indefinite hold rather than return to them now. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure about how it works with the new version but there might be problems with some store inventories and the current map trying to load creatures that no longer exsist. Save a new game with no DSotSC items and be sure to clear your cache after restoring and you might be able to pull it off, if not then you'll have to use a save from before DSotSC. Also any store visited while DSotSC was installed should not be revisited.
