In the midst of all the fun Aerie starts nagging [as always] about how hard it is for her, and when I let her down [a tad too hard], she runs off!
How does one get her back? Can one get her back?

Go back to a save before she leaves - then try a different dialoge-option.

It's often the case in the romance dialogues for Aerie that when she leaves the party she goes back to the circus. Check there and see if you can get her back into the party. The romance is effectively dead but she may adventure with you again.

If you don't want to romance her then you can find her in the circus tent I think.
If you want to romance her however I suggest you do what Ar cunin said!
