O.K. - You guys probably beat him easy but he's driving me nuts!
I can dispel his invisibility, but he knocks half my party unconscious straight away, is immune to weapons and spells and can heal himself! - how do you get time to drop all those defences and them hit him? I have tried summoning creatures etc but they don't last more than 1-2 seconds.....HELP!!

I had the same problem - hardest battle I fought in the whole game!
After reloading more than several times I had one spellcaster stand back casting true sight and breach, pierce shield, ruby ray of reversal etc... while everyone else grabbed their biggest swords and five hasted characters (some with greater whirlwind and hardiness) proceeded to kick dragon butt. Also don't be afraid of using your items with charges, simple I know but I used to save these for the really hard battles and never end up using them

Draconis is the hardest Dragon I have fought in BG2:ToB. His father is a push over as compaired. (I think Draconis is a wizard and Abazigal is a fighter). For me this 1/4 baalspawn mutt was harder to kill than demogorgon OR any of the other dragons. The most effective way I found to beat Draconis is this:

My 3 fighters go up and beat on him while 2 of my magic users go stand near the screen exit. My 3rd magic user is decked out in breach spells (my personal favorite) and dispell magic. Dont waste to many resorces on the dragons human form, wait for him to change before you really let lose. Back all your magic users away right before he becomes a dragon, use them to summon lots of creatures. After the first time your fighters get thrown back send them right back at him, use another breach and try to use greater deathblow/greater whirl wind/smite abilities immediatly after you notice he is taking damage. Thats how I killed him. Good Luck.

A few thoughts...

1) Lots of True Sights
2) Cast Breech on Draconis ASAP anytime he brings up stoneskins.
3) I kept my the Wand of Monster summoning from the very beginning of Irenicus' dungeon. Use it to summon some decent cannon fodder. I usually get some gnolls. They're tough enough to keep Drac's attention for a while and that's good enough. If Drac starts to chase one of your mages, summoning some cheap monsters between the mage and Drac will switch his target.

4) High level mage spells: Mordenkainen's Sword, Horrid Wilting and Comet work real well.
5) If you have a character that's getting low on HP, pull that character back from Drac and suck down those healing potions. It's often a long battle, so this character may be needed later.
6) Have your tanks use Whirlwind attacks.
7) Keep your mages away from Drac.

Keep your Mages away from Draconis? Hee, hee, hee... ...

Draconis should stay away from them... it is not good for his health.

But seriously folks... Draconis's human form is a pushover, simply send either a Deva or a Planetar to smack him down until he decides to turn into a Dragon.

True Sight should be maintained at all times.

Lower Resistance is a must if you want to use magic, a Spell Trigger filled with 3 of these will do the trick.

Khelben's Warding Whips and Breach will remove all his spell protection hoo-hah.

Use standard anti-Dragon tactics, never stay as a group, attack from all sides, so that his Wing-Buffet will not affect everybody.

Always have summons to help, Mordenkainen's Sword is gold here.

Etc... ...

Minor Spoiler Warning

I had no trouble beating Draconis. Unlike some of the other bosses Draconis is not immune to time stop. So I Cast time stop then I used
Greater Whirlwind and Draconis was down in a minute.

This may seem like a cheap strategy but it works not only on this boss but a few others as well

I can't understand why people have a hard time with this punk. I whupped his butt the first time I fought him. Pretty simply, I used 3 characters: 1, my Kensai/thief armed with mage stick and ram stick. I smack to remove any stoneskin with mage stick, then WHACK the crap out of foos with the ram stick. +40 on every hit on average characters meen he still does TONS to dragons. Of course, he got winged though. Then, in comes the REAL threat: Maldo, the Fighter/Thief multiclassed horror armed with Blackrazor in off hand and The Answer/Dragon killing sword from frikys (switch from The Answer when dragon is smacked a few times with sword, and then I do the REAL damage with this sword. A secondary threat is Saervok armed with that +4 thaco hurter sword.

Needless to say, Draconis was toast. If he tried to buffet a character, another was waiting. If somebody got badly hurt, they ran and visited Vicy and Aerie. Then they ran back and wuped more dragon.

Maldo alone mostly took down Abazigal... of course he died and so did saervok, but Viconia's hammer smote the foolish reptile all the same.

Yeah, as Dundee said use the devas. What I did was to walk so that I could just engage him in conversation, then run off before he attacked, or any of the invisible stalkers attacked. Then I would attract the invisible stalkers off and kill em. Then summon low class creatures until they kill him and he turns into a dragon. Then send all of the really weak creatures at him until he uses all his spells on them. Then send in the heavier stuff, like the invisible stalkers and arial servant and Nurushu. NEVER LEAVE HIM IDLE, cuz then he summons loads of invisible stalkers. You protection from evil 10' radius on your group and the creatures, then summon deamons and pit fiends. Attack him with your creatures from 1 side (with your summoning dudes) and then attack from the other with your fighters. If the deamons fall then summon the deva, cuz they wont die as easy. No prob.

Course this information is useless cuz you already know how to kill him cuz you said that you just did it so if you read this again then you know what 2 do.

Geez....how bad can you get? Ok want to defeat Draconis easily? Use the Run Away When He Transforms Tactic. He is quite ez, i really dunno y ppl think he is hard. Attack him until he turns into a dragon. Cast haste on ur party be4 hand and run away from Drac leaving some summonables to distract him. He should not follow you and sleep. When you are ready, cast ur preps, summon some monsters and a Plantar and send ur mages and clerics in. Distract with them and cast ALL THE SPELLS YOU CAN. Hvae ur PLanatar cast Firestorm and then move him away. Have ur mages cast Comet, Dragon's Breath, Dazim's Wilting, Etc. Have ur Clerics cast Implosion and Smite and he should go down in no time. Hit him hard and fast, he will not put up a good fight.
