When u kill a monster and the party gains XP is that XP split btw the party members, if so with a few less party members would your levels increase faster.
Eg. tring to raise the levels of my mage.

yes - the fewer people you have in your party the more exp you will earn and the faster you will go up levels

That is the reason why Solo players get to higher levels much quicker than parties do.
