O.K. I finally finished the entire series and now I am bored out of my mind. Now what do I do? Are there any comparable RPG's out there to while away my time until Neverwinter Nights comes out? (Oh yeah, I completed all of the Icewind Dale ones too.) I guess I'll have to go find some websites with reviews of the plethora of RPG's out there to find out which are good. I would like the opinion of people on this board though, since you all have played the BG series and know what caliber of game I'm looking for.

Have you tried Planescape: Torment? IIRC it's also made by Black Isles. It's quite an intriguing game, very heavily story-driven, and weird too. It takes place not in the usual places (i.e. Faerun) but in Sigil and in a few other planes as well.

Torment requires a little refocusing though.

Still a good game, just very, very different from anything you've ever played before.

Right. Torment is very dialogue-based, whereas BG is more hack and slash. That means you need more intelligence and charisma than strength and constitution, even if you're a fighter.

Why not try Neverwinter Nights or Pools of Radiance, when they are realesed? You could also play BG2 again with an entirely different character and party.

I think that the advice which costs less money is the last one.

well i bought pool of radiance and i couldn't play it. my computer could run baldurs gate but not PoR. and i've only heard bad things about the game. but hey if you want to buy a brand new PoR let me know, bygones01@yahoo.com . never winter nights is an online game isn't it? and how similar is it to baldurs gate? and how good is icewind dale? also there was a post about black isle working on the new baldurs gate for christmas 2002... but this could just be an urban legend.

One word: ULTIMA!
The ultima games far surpass the BG games (as awesome as the BG games are). Run out and buy the Ultima Collection dude, although stay clear of Ultima 9:Ascension, it's utter shite. Seriously, the BG series are modelled VERY strongly on the forumulae of the later ultima games (namely Ultima 7 parts one and two), and I think you'll enjoy them emmensely if you like Baldur's Gate. Although I would suggest picking up the Ultima 7 WinX program (search for it at any good Ultima webpage) in order to make it run properly under windows.

Yes, Ultima. Sadly, I've completed that series as well (I actually played Ultima I when I was a wee lad and it was new!) -- also Might and Magic. I did not fall for Ultima 9 though -- looks like crap to me. I have gotten an earful from my brother about Everquest, but the idea of online gaming doesn't really appeal to me. The best is Pencil and Paper AD&D of course, but who has time for that anymore?

P.S. I think I'll go out and get Planescape. It sounds good. Dialogue doesn't bother me (I've also completed the Zork series -- the first one on a DEC-20 mainframe at my Dad's university when I was twelve.)

Try Arcanum. A little different as BG but still good.
