Well I´m wondering if he´s worthe anything....my current party is:
Me Fighter...Big bald guy with a nasty attitude! Edwin Imoen Branween...I´m so sorry that the creators didn´t think of her in BG2 Coran...I can´t really make up my mind between him or Kivan? and last some idiotic paladin I picked up in the Ankheg screen...is he any good? Sparhawk threw the blue saphre against the hellbeast and with a gigantic implosion the creature faltered untill only two forms were left. one blue and one red, strugling as if the future of the world lay in their hands!

Garrick I haven't used much. I used to hate them but recently I've found bards are actually a lot of fun to play. From waht little I have seen of him I have a feeling Garrick may be one of the more annoying NPCs.
Ajantis is not so great. He is the weakest among the four good aligned warrior types. Kivan and Coran is a toss up. Both are as good they get. Coran is an exceptional archer. In addition to being an excellent archer in his own right Kivan offers some melee ability with a halberd.

Always pick the stronger of the two archers!!!
Kivan can carry more...is more versatile and has vengence in his blood!!! Thats a winning formula!!! |

Brave-brave Sir Garrik, Sir Garrik led the way, Brave-brave Sir Garrik, Sir Garrik ran away...
My opinion.

I think his sound set is too annoying to even consider him. He refers to you as "sir" constantly, in the assumption that all players are male...
If you want a bard, go for Eldoth. He's fun and he has a cute portrait. Plus, he's evil, which is always good.

Just kill him, all bards are pretty useless, but Garrick is a real exemplar.

all bards in bg1 are pretty useless, in bg2 they can be quite good.
and yes, garrick is the perfect example of a completely useless npc. he cant melee, use a bow, do magic, steal or do anything well enough. and his stats are awful too.

Garick is just awful, as norompanlasolas says. What makes it worse is that by the time I get to him (around level 3) he's still level 1. Bards only become truly powerful in ToB

A few months ago, in a posting on Bards, I nominated Garrick as the worst NPC in BG1. This is especially true if you don't have TOTSC installed becuase this gives Bards an extra weapon. His stats are bad, particulaly his constitution, so at lower Levels he either gets killed or he runs away all the time. However if you persevere and get to higher levels then he can make a contribution. After all any NPC with a Composite Bow and a Wand is certainly going to do some damage
If all else fails - cast Mirror Image, Shield and Haste on him and use him as cannon fodder. So if you want a nice easy game, with lots of melee fighting, then he's certainly not for you. Alternativelt if you are looking for a challenge then take Garrick along for the ride.
