I've been soloing a Kensai/Mage/Thief (NRL) through SoA (No tactics... mean seriously).

I have a few comments (possible spoilers):

-I did, in fact, reload once, after Firkraag "Hold Person"-ed me while I was carring that Immune to Hold Person Short Sword (Is it Ilbratha?). Does this sound like a bug? In the second attempt, the hold person just bounced off, so I think it must have been.

-I tried playing on insane, which is easy most of the time as my buffs keep me from taking ANY damage. But cloudkill does a massive 38 damage (a third of my life). So, no more insane.

-I noticed the other day my health was 198 instead of the usual 101. After resting it went back to normal. I DIDN'T user Tensors. I did user my bhaalspawn Vampyric Drain, but according to the spell description in the spellbook, it shouldn't provide anywhere near that kind of health. Does the innate version work differently?

-I have had a couple of close calls, all involving disabling spells. The crazy Cyric Cleric Hold Personed me. (No sword in hand this time.) And a Yuan Ti confused me. I want to put something in a contigency that will un-disable me in that event that I am disabled. Does remove magic have only a 50-50 chance of working on me? Other ideas? Anyone recall where to find the ring of free action. I could really use that.

-Anyone know why timestop traps double up sometime? When the timestop runs out, they often kick in again for another 12 seconds or so...

Fun things to do with a Kensai-Mage-Thief:
-KAI-backstab with Celestial Fury
-Whirlwind attack with Carsomyr.
-Whirlwind attack with Celestial Fury!!!
-AC of -20 or so halfway through SoA!!! (Well, not normally, I prefer robe of Vecna...but I CAN)
-Greater Deathblow+Improved Haste virtually anwhere.
-TIMESTOP TRAPS RULE! Timestop + greater whirlwind.

The Bhaalspawn ability Vamptouch does something like three times the touch. It might have something to do with the level the protagonist is at.

-Dispel Magic? Remove Magic only works on enemies.

-Didnt that solo swashbuckler-Irenicus guy have the same problem with time traps?

i'm no expert on this but that rang a bell and reminded me that the spell guide has this as one of its suggestions for Contingency

"Invisibility (Mislead if your level is high enough) when Helpless (especially if you're solo)."

any good?

also (ring of free action location spolier)

@JrKASperov: I wouldn't call double timestop a problem, exactly But I think Rataxes did mention it.

@Armen: Yep...when I am high enough level I will use that.

Are you sure that is the location? I though the (spoiler)

These may be stupid questions, but...

1. How did you get a kensai/mage/thief? I thought kits were not allowed in multiclass.

2. How did you get a kensai/mage/thief with 101 hp so early in SOA? Seems like it took my F/M/T a long time (i.e. 10th level or above in each class with maximum hp at each level-up) to get that many hp, even with 18 CON. What levels does he have and what chapter are you in?

EDIT -

3. Doesn't the fact that you had to reload sort of negate the point of this game being a NRL? (sorry... just being a bit of a stickler)

1 - I admit, I used shadowkeeper.

2 - I'm not all THAT early in SOA. About a third of the way through. But since I am soloing, I get tons of experience. I am well over 10/10/10...somewhere in the region of 3.5 million experience.

3 - Which is why I asked! Since I am solo, if I die the game is over according to NRL rules. Of course, if I die because of a bug (being held while supposedly immune to hold), it's different. Isn't it?

So the question is: Am I still playing a NRL game if I reloaded because of a bug that caused my death? Tough call.

I say, squish bugs, you did right. I reload when a bug or cheat or misclick happened and did something drastically unwanted.

(I mean, characters won't make those mistakes, it's not roleplaying!)

Regarding #1, is it as simple as changing to a kit in shadowkeeper, and this gives you all the skills, AC bonuses, etc? Or did you have to change all of these things manually? Because, I'm not above using shadowkeeper for this purpose, but only if it's easy for me to do... Also, can you use multiple kits through shadowkeeper (thinking about kensai/assassin).

Regarding #3, sorry, I must have missed the point of your question. I'd agree that if there were clearly a machine error of some type then you'd be justified in still calling this a NRL game. Just be aware that it's a pretty slippery slope once you start using that logic ("it didn't count because I didn't mean to click there"). For a stickler, reload is a reload is a reload, no matter what the reason...
