Christmas is coming up and i am not sure what to get. Does anyone here think it is worth getting Bg1 even though you've played and completed Bg2 and Throne of Bhaal?

I can tell you that BG1 is a terrific game in it's own right, but I'm not sure how it tends to play psychologically to play the sequel first and go then back to the original... It also depends on whether you are powergame oriented or roleplaying oriented. Hardcore powergamers who played BG2 first may be disappointed by BG1. If you have any PnP experience you may actually prefer BG1, though, since it is more faithful to PnP. There is no way you could become as powerful in PnP as you you do in SoA/ToB, for example (up to level 40, come on! lol).
I am probably in a minority here, but I actually prefer the game world and graphics of BG1. I prefer the larger size of the character animations in BG1 as opposed to their having shrunk them down slightly for the 800 X 600 screen in BG2. They start looking like ants to me at that size. Although the resolution is a tad lower in BG1, I think the character animations are actually better drawn in BG1 than BG2. Again they look a little more like people in BG1 whereas in BG2 they almost move around like little bugs, or something. However you do not get as impressive spell effects in BG1 as compared with BG2. BG2 is clearly superior there. Re: the respective settings, I personally like the more northern European-style, sunny, outdoors environment of BG1 to the darker, mostly indoors, Turkish/Byzantine-style setting of BG2. Some people hated the necessity of traveling all over creation in BG1, finding that grew wearisome. And that is true, it does get to be a bit of a pain after you have played the game several times. But it is loads of fun exploring through these large wilderness areas for the first time in BG1. In fact, I am missing that element so far in BG2. BG2 has far more character development/interaction than BG1. Much more. There BG2 outshines BG1 hands down. But on the other hand there is something very satisfying about building up your character from scratch in BG1 (you start out with 0 XP). Hope this is somewhat helpful to you. As I said, a lot of people would disagree with several things I have said here. But in any event, the bundle with ToSC only costs something like $20 bucks, so of course you should get it and check it out. ![]()

I think BG1 is just as enjoyable to play as BG2. I've played BG2, and am now replaying BG1 with TOTSC and DSOTSC added, am having a blast! Of course, BG1 is a bit slower than BG2, but hey, your characters are larger on the screen than in BG2 (at least on my computer anyway). Not to mention BG1 you should be able to get for a cheap price since it's been out for several years, so go get it! Or, errr, have somebody else get it for ya for Christmas!

I think that you should definatley get it, both BG1 and BG2 are excellent games.
Leading on from this, I have another question. It it worth getting TOTSC or icewind dale if I already have BG1 and BG2?
