I've only beaten him legit one time - and my party was fairly high level. The second time, I faced him, the party was lower level. After many many tries, I finally gave up and used my +1000 Sword of Ctrl-Y.

Now, I am unexpectedly facing him with my third party - and at the earliest stage ever. My party consists of:

Joker - evil Jester (yeah, he is based on that Joker). Wielding Malakar and crossbow from Karamazov.
Minsc - wielding Ilyich's hammer (+2)
Yoshimo - wielding just his natural stuff
Jaheira - swinging Ilyich's wonderful +3 club.
Aerie - just joined the party after we cleared the circus tent for her.

OK, here's the deal. I cheated Malakar into the Chateau to give to Joker because I was originally going to try to Solo with him. A few tries showed me that just wasn't working out, so I went back and recruited my former teammates (I had simply avoided letting them out of the cages just in case I needed their help ).

I actually forgot Joker had Malakar. He rarely enters melee' anyway. I don't know the exact levels of everybody, but we have JUST gotten out of Chateau Irenicus. We have met (and defeated) mega-Grumpy dwarf at the Seven Vales Inn (?) and his buddies, then cleared the circus tent. So we are only around levels 8-10 at best. Also, we have not even met the Cowled Wizards yet, so if we try any spells, we'll have to deal with those jerks too.

One tactic I tried that bought some time was to have Joker cast Improved Invisibility on himself when Kuriosan showed up. That bought me enough time to out-wait his first round of protections. I have Karamazov's heavy crossbow (+2) and several normal bolts. I also used SK to give Joker the "Poison Weapon" ability 2x/day (and removed Lorlach's drain and Vampiric touch to offset the addition). So I could wait for his first round of protections to go down, then shoot him with poisoned bolts. Theoretically, that should prevent him from casting any more spells. And - for once - Joker's Bard Song may actually come in handy, since the Jester's song causes Confusion in the enemy rather than bolstering the attacks and defenses of his allies.

That's what I've tried so far, but I know several of you have faced Kuriosan many more times than I have. So I'm sure you have several good ideas I've not even thought of yet.

I look forward to hearing battle tips from the rest of you.

Run!

lol, seriously!

Kuriosan (as you know) is a uber l337 katana wielding powergamed maniac. I suggest you use the search feature to see what other Kuriogit threads have cropped up (there are quite a few).

Personally, I summon around 300 Skeleton Warriors/Planatars using Projected Image/Wish abuse, lots of Protection from magical weapons spells, a couple of breaches and true sight.

This usually (!) works

Have Yoshimo set some traps and lead Kuriosan onto them. With a low level party, I think the only way to take him on is to use complete cheese, and magic will get you in trouble with the Cowels.

That's very similar to how I beat him the first time. I was playing a Wizard Slayer dualed to a Thief. Kuriosan attacked in Waukeen's Promenade so I eventually set as many traps as I could in front of the rubble left over from Irenicus' battle with the Cowled Wizards. I had tried several times to just keep running in circles from Kuriosan until his protections wore off, but that never worked. He still went through my party like a hot knife through butter.

So I set the traps in hopes of luring him into them. Instead of doing that, though, Kuriosan actually spawned right in the middle of my traps!!! By the time they finished going off, he was Near Death and had NO PROTECTIONS UP!!! (cause the traps had prevented him from reading any scrolls.

Needless to say, the group dog-piled on him immediately before he had a chance to even think about recovering.

I will have Yoshimo lay down some traps. We've already been attacked once without provocation (by mega-Grumpy dwarf), so we do have some justification for setting up a trap for future encounters.

Run into Adventurer's Mart, buy two scrolls of Prot. from Acid and a couple of oils of Speed. Put that on your Jester and play hit-n-run tactic with him using your crossbow. But you'll be hitting him very rarely with that Bard's THAC0.

Other's can help with ranged weapons. Minsc could probably hit him more often with a good longbow.
Actually put P.f.Acid on the guy with best THAC0.

When he is under PFMW use normal bolts and arrows.

He'll probably teleport away before you do any damage.

My thoughts: too early for him, he'll kill you or teleport away.

Try to fight him in an area that the Cowled Wizards will let you cast magic in. Since he will only show up outside in Athkatla, that narrows your possibilities a bit... but, if you find the right place, and cast the right spell(s), Kuroisan will join those around him in death.
Protection from Acid is a good idea, but be sure to get alot of it - each hit Kuroisan deals not only does acid damage, but also lowers acid resistance. I would also recomend paying a trip to Lady Yuth before you try to fight him. With the right spell, cast on the right character, you can get Kuroisan to kill himself while your party either looks on joyfully, or provides some kind of help (rebuffing and healing come to mind). Keep in mind that Kuroisan wields a katana, and hence will want to melee with you. Don't try to avoid this, just get the best character for the job to do it (this is not necesarily someone who is good in melee, though).

Like you mentioned, your bard song may come in handy if you chug a potion of invisibility and follow him around singing in his ear driving him crazy. Or if all else fails you can take a trip to Trademeet or somewhere like that outside of the city to level up a bit.

I feel sorry for the little kiddies running around Waukeen's promenade playing hide and seek...

Who is this, Kuriosan? I have beaten the game, and all that, but he doesn't sound familiar. I assume he's not an intrinsic part of the game?

True. As you say, Kuriosan is not part of the original game.

He is one optional component of the Tactics mod. If you are interested, it can be downloaded from:
