hmmm, don't recall wyverns, thats because a skipt the whole statue dudes part. I do recall a windy place where i saw a wyvern, i think. Well, i won't spoil you, but continue exploring somewhere else. You'll find a bunch of doors with a hallway. Its like this, one long hallway, hallways off of it to the left. They lead to doors. Anyway, go down to the end, and i think i saw the wyverns, and I missle weaponed them, don't recall. it might work, haven't done the tower in ages, and quite frankly, I don't think I'll do it again. Sure you get kick@$$ items, but sorry, I'm not about to loose my sanity because of that.

I've only done Durlag's once, but there seem to be 2 ways to beat the wyverns (I happened to use Method 2, I'll try #1 next time)
Method One: Equip everybody with missile weapons only, no matter how good they are in a melee. Raise all the skeletons you can. Raise a bunch of animals and monsters, too. Send your fastest guy to get the attention of all three wyverns. When he's on his way back, hit the statues. Then cast Haste. This will give you a small army to tackle the wyverns, either the wyverns or the statues will be dead before the Dire Charm wears off, and your party members shouldn't take a scratch. Method Two: Avoid the wyverns for the time being; attack from the rear. (This just happened to be the way I wandered through the level; I didn't even know the statues were there until the wyverns were dead.) Clear out the 'skeleton' and 'invisible dude' rooms, then go to the back door of the wyvern room. Equip missile weapons again, and stand well away from the door. Lure the wyverns to the door--they can't fit through it to attack you, but your guys sure can shoot through it.

First time I also have entered wyverns room from back (cleared invisible guys room first) and got kicked my ass by a single or 2 wyverns. Then Imoen hidden in shadow found those statues, activated all of them, and before charm was over all statues were dead and 2 and 3/4 of wyverns also.

I know this is a bit of an old topic now but I thought you guys might be interested in this. I also came across the Wyverns via the back-door and after a couple of re-loads I'd figured out that I could kill them in the doorway, but by the time they were dead most of my ammo had been used up. Since in effect I was only killing them to get the XP this looked like a bad trade. (The same could also be said of the Dwarf Doomgaurds on the previous level) So anyway I tried again and this time I found that if Kivan used his Halbard +2 he could stand in the doorway and hit them, without them being able to hit him. This probably applies to other long weapons as well. Anyway he took them all on single-handed without getting a scratch.
PS. what are the Wyverns doing down here anyway, shouldn't they be flying around Cloakwood enjoying the fresh air ?
