Well, inspired by various posts and most of all, Six's I'm Still a Naughty Boy thread, I thought I'd give it a go and try for the first time an evil campaign. It's been a blast so far, and my opponents have been a lot easier to handle this time around. Scrolls, cursed items and so forth are a little hard to get ahold of early in the game, so I figured I would terrorize Amn once I leave the Underdark. So far, being inside of Spellhold, my party consists of:

PC - 14th Lvl. Sorcerer
Edwin - 12th Lvl.
Viconia - 15th Lvl.
Korgan - 14th Lvl.
Valen - 10th/12th Lvl.
And Imoen, which will dropped off afterwards.

I've done the evil basics, siding with Bodhi and slaughtered all of the Shadow Thieves, disappointing that Linvail was so weak. Same goes for the Harper Stronghold, though for some reason I can't find Jaheira anywhere (at all). My biggest challenge was the Acid Kensai that decided to drop in along with a group of fighters from the "Random City Encounters" by the Tactics Mod (or was it the Cowled Enforcers? Can't remember) Anyway, they were easy enough with a Death spell, and once Pierce Magic and Breach were cast, I was able to get ahold of the Acid Katana.

As for evil deeds, like I said, will be saved for after the Underdark. I've made sure some party members weren't going anywhere though. Somewhere in those Temple Ruins is a statue of a mad little halfling lass beside her shady lover. As my most evil act so far? Ha, easy, I let Neeber live

I have recently started down the evil path as well. It is a great characteristic of Baldur's gate that different npc personalities, and your own can play a significant role in the game.

I haven't got quite as far at yourself, I am sitting on level 13, and haven't preceded to Spellhold yet.

My party at the moment is:

Myself (Sorceror), Korgan, Anomen (almost evil!), Viconia, Jan, Edwin

Having good fun, though I wish I could pick up another sword wielding fighter.

My stance generally hasn't been to act totally evil (hey everybody likes attention, who says everyone has to hate me). My rep. isn't good, but it isn't bad.

Hey I am sure some of histories greatest heroes would be of neutral evil alignment. If the reward is right, why not do a good deed?

Haer'Dalis is pretty ordinary I have found though. He doesn't seem to be worthwhile in any department. Jack of all trades master of none indeed. Everyone in the party can offer more than him imo.

Bards are kickass if you use them properly. They just need a very different playing style that takes some getting used to

I disagree. I think Haer'Dalis is an excellent character. He supports sword-wielding tanks as well as spell casters. One has to remember that playing a Blade (or any bard class) requires different strategies. There have been several threads on how to play a Blade and I'd suggest reading through them. For an evil party, I'd pick Haer'Dalis over Anomen any day.

Indeed if you have Viconia already She's a much better cleric than Anomen is.

Jan is better than Haer'Dalis, as he can cast more spells and carry the world (well, if you package it smaller) with his Thieving skills, and the difference in their combat ability is pretty much nonexistent. No matter how much Bards pretend to be good fighters, they most definitely are not.

Anomen is better than Viconia. The difference in Wisdom gives Viconia more spells per day, sure, but the discrepancy is minute compared to the base number of spells anyway, and when's the last time you actually used all of your Level 3 and 4 slots? So, essentially, the debate between them boils down to whether a base 65% Magic Resistance is better or worse than solid stats and the ability to actually fight reasonably well.

Yes Six, but you must come to understand that the basis of my evil party was also put together for roleplaying reasons. I have fought in the debate of Anomen vs. Vicionia time and again, and I ask you: If I didn't take Anomen when I was good, what makes you think I'd take him when I'm evil?

In case this question does pop up and since we're actually on the subject of Jan, some people might see that Edwin is lacking behind everyone else. I did have Jan in his place, and he has served to be a great addition to my other datas, but in this current campaign, I found him to be of little help. I have a good thief in Valen, and two capable wizards in my PC and Edwin.

Bards... this is not the best area in the game for me, because I have never used one and Haer'Dalis (maybe once), because in my personal opinion, bards suck. They are a poor mix of a mage and a thief, but if someone can show me to a thread that shows me what they can actually do, then I may change my mind on this subject.

Heh, I'll agree with you Spel, you do have to act good if you have a reward coming your way, so you can never really roleplay your character as completely evil. Aren't they working on a mod at the moment to benefit evil characters in the longrun?

Simple, what a great way to pursue Evil by making someone good fall? What I'd do is have Anomen fail his test, then I'd take him to kill his dad!
