Im reading posts here now - and i see that a lot of people are talking about soloing the game ....

Solo - does it mean just pure one main char and that's all ? if yes - than how non-mage and/or non-thief char is managing traps and locked chests ?
How solo char is doing some quests, which initiates when some specific member is in party ?

Or SOLO means that GENERAL line is made alone, but for gaining some quests some specific NPCs are invited to party?

Im just was playing standart full party game and now im cureose.

Solo is doing it all with the PC alone IIRC

strictly, solo means just you - if the quest requires an NPC to be in your party you just don't do it (the exception is one quest that you can do with an NPCs body and you don't want to kill him/her for roleplaying reasons)

you can do what you like of course and soloing except for recruiting NPCs for their quests would be cool i reckon - although soloists are usually desperate for XP and don't like to share

TRAPS: sheer hit points and healing, good saving throws, knowing where they are from playing before and avoiding them, spell protections

LOCKS: bash them open or ignore them

Or, if you're a mage: cast Knock on them. Cleric/Mage gives you spells that lets you Find Traps. No thief necessary.

Mages have the best defense against traps. Mirror Image and Spell Immunity:Abjuration will protect you from most of them. Then again when you play the game so many times over you actually know where all the traps are.

Soloing means what is is. Solo... no companions. It isn`t so tough as it looks. (Even with Tactics,Ascension and Battels,Insane)

You have to make a plan and write it down to the piece of papaer. Wich quests are the easiest and involve none or little fighting and so on.

Generally non mage/thief soloing requires you to rely on memory, like Xen said, of where all the traps are, which ones you need to activate to get neat prizes and which to avoid. Usually, therefore, it is better to solo after you have beaten the game once normally. Or so methinks

Who cares what people think the definition is for 'soloing'. If you want to play with the occasional NPC for his quest, then go ahead! I certainly won't be calling that non-solo.

I can't even imagine soloing BGII. Just the thought of it gives me the vapors!

Ah well, you'll get used to the idea. My first solo game was hard (Fighter/Mage) but after a while I got the hang of it
