Hiya fellas,

I've come to BG after doing IWD and I guess I got used to making up my own party. As you know, in BG your charcaters come and go depending on your decisions. Does anyone have any tips or know of any sites which give advice as to which ones you should keep, and which ones you should cut loose in order to successfully finish? The evil ones I generally get rid of easily enuf - eg Montaron and Xzar, but I'm stuck over whether to keep Minsc and Boo and rescue his friend and lose someone else...My party is pretty magic weak now, except for the bard...Any tips?

Subotai, thief and archer

YES! Keep Minsc and Boo! Minsc is the BEST tank in the game. As for a good party, whatever works for you. A good one that works with just about every possible PC class would be (this is for good characters):
Minsc (and Boo of course )
Ajantis (Paladin - Very good tank)
Dynaheir (Invoker - The best good mage in the game)
Yeslick ( Fighter/Cleric - Good Cleric, Good Fighter, Very Versatile)
Imoen (Thief - Very Good thief, may want to dual to mage at lv. 5 or so)

This party will get you through just about anything. And don't worry about keeping them together, I went through the whole game with a party that did NOT get along (they hurled insults at each other constantly, quite entertaining actually) but none of them left my party. The only way someone will leave your party is if your reputation gets too low (or high) for them. You can check it out in your manual (chart called "Party Reactions to Reputation). It's based on their allignment. Basically, if your reputation is heroic, your chaotic evil necromancer isn't going to like it. Or if you're a villian, your Paladin is not going to like it. Simple.

Good luck!

Xan( who you find in the mines) is a really sucky mage. He cant learn magic missle, fireball and all the other cool offensive spells. Mayhaps the best you can go for is Dynaheir.

Khalid and Jahiera killed Xzar and Montaron in my game. Pretty funny to watch. I wanted them gone anyway. lol

If you want a really good conjuror, consider taking Edwin along.Although he is an evil character, his spells are among the best in the game
