overcoming dodgyness of the s**ty game

hello

today i was going through BGII with my necromancer (dracon) i completed BG with imported into BGII - and today noticed in my main chars record I COULDN'T EXPORT HIM!!

then to make things worse i looked at my bio, it said "BEST FRIEND TO ARKAON" arkaon is a TOB character i created and it thought that HE WAS THE PROTAGONIST!! THE DAMN GAME DIDN'T EVEN RECOGNISE MY MAIN CHARACTER AS THE PROTAGONIST!!!!

plz anybody who can help and make it so i can export my main character (though i doubt u can - BGII is a great game with much detail and evidence of timely effort - but this game is one of the most incompetently made games, dispite having such a basic basic game engine... how someone can do it i don't know lol)

seriously, does anybody have any suggestions to be able to make a character exportable? one way or another?

Erm..
First and foremost, are you fully patched? Go to BioWare's website and get the lastest patch, if you haven't already:

Here's how i see it: Your trying to import your character from BG1, right? Its easy, after the final battle in BG1, your character file will be exported for importing later(freaky sentence). In order to import him in BG2, you must first go to the CHARACTERS-file in your BG1 folder and copy/cut the wanted file to you BG2 CHARACTERS-file. Then start your game and import the character file, and your set!

ok heres what happened. I DID import my character from BG into BGII and started a new SOA game. from here i was on chapter 3 and completed many of the subquests when i noticed that when i went to "Record" of my main character, i could neither 'custom' nor 'export' him?

any help?? lol [img]smile.gif[/img]

and yes my game has TOB installed and has ALL new patches installed

Was this character possibly not the protagonist in BG1, but another party member in a multiplayer game? Not sure but importing using how rastlin explained worked every time for me. However, I never did import multiplayer NON-protagonists into BG2.
Sorry but I'm not sure how to fix your problem.

no he was the protagonist in BG

guess what!? it fixed itself this morning!!!

Problems really dont 'fix' themselves completly. It might come back later to haunt you in another game...It's probably best to figure out and remember what you did to fix it short-term, so you can do it again later if the bug shows it face again.
