I'm going to replay BG2 after a long hiatus, and I have a quick question about how long NPCs will stay with the party if you don't get going on their quest. I want to get them as quickly as possible so they're not too far behind on experience, but some of the quests are too hard for early on parties. Specifically:

Cernd and the rogue druids
Keldorn and the Unseeing Eye
Nalia and her keep

Thanks!

The ones that have time limits are where the NPC will leave a party if you dont get to it within the time alotted.

I believe the rest, like Nalia's Keep, you can stall until you have better equipment and higher levels.

Um, what? I want to know what the time limit is! - I know the NPC will leave the party if I don't get to it within the time limit, but what is the limit? I want these three characters in my final group, so I need to know if and when they'll leave me.

I'm pretty sure I remember Nalia leaving me once when I didn't go off to the keep in time, and I can imagine Cernd would get a bit shirty, if we didn't save the animals soon enough. But how long do I have?

Nalia's quest is one of the easiest for a new party. You should have no problems with it. And IIRC, Cernd should be able to wipe the floor with Faldorn, so that hshouldn't be an issue either (although I'm not certain that he leaves). Keldorn definitely doesn't leave. And Nalia will leave, although I'm not sure about how long it takes.

I honestly don't know the time limits, but they are pretty short. However, if you grab them, then go to Chapter 4, it shuts down the timer until you get to Chapter 6. Thus, if you are worried about that, go to Chapter 4 as quickly as possible, grabbing both of them right before you clear out Bohdi's lair in Chapter 3. I just did that with Keldorn in my game I am playing now, and it worked wonderfully. Now, when you get to Chapter 6, they may jump on your case, so you'll probably have to do their quests right away (just go to Nalia's keep, talk to Captain Arat, go in the secret door, talk to Daleson, and walk out the secret door; then run over to do the Unseeing Eye, and go back to do the keep).

Keldorn will wait pretty much forever on the Unseeing Eye--I'm not sure he'll EVER leave the party because his quest hasn't been completed. Nalia, however, gets antsy after a week or so, and storms off to wait for you at her Keep. I don't know about Cernd.

Cernd is not terribly patient about it, either. I tried to put off doing his one time and he did jump on my case pretty quickly (about the same as Nalia).

I recall having Cernd leave the party once (no big loss) I think after about a week or so of not doing his quest...but don't quote me on that.

As a side note, does anybody know if Haer'Dalis gets antsy if you don't take him and the gem to Raelis? I never thought about it before.

Haer'Dalis does insist after a week or so.
