Does anyone have some pointers for killing those greater bassalisks in chapter 6? They are giving me serious trouble. Thanks.

Hm, just cast protection from petrification on 3 of your fighters and kill them. Those basilisks almost never did any damage to me (and gave 400 xp).

Or, you could summon monsters and make them run ahead of you, causing them to be petrified in your stead.
(I must confess though, the first time I came across them my party was quite weakened and I used stealth + invisibility + potions of invisibility to sneak past them. You don't HAVE to kill everything you come across, you know ![]() ------------------ The last arrow of Legolas kindled in the air as it flew, and plunged burning into the heart of a great wolf-chieftain. or if you want to do it the cheap way, you can charm them ^^ that's what i do when i get in a situation that's really tough, i charm half my enmeis and turn them against eahc othe,r then ijust sit there and enjoy the battle
the thing to defeating them (IMO) is to kill them as fast as possible, once you see one, start firing all your ranged weapons at it, and hope to kill it before it gets teh chance to kill anyone of your party members....the protectiion from petricfiction works really nice too ^^ O.o*cutecotton*o.O |

Protection from Petrification or Mirrored Eyes on your lead character before encounter. Close quickly with you lead character to negate the ranged attack. Have spellcasters throw magic missle and everybody else used ranged weapons.
If you stumble across one by accident, fireball works nicely, but watch the range closely. |

maybe spoiler....
. . . . . . . . . wasnt there that ghoul just northwest of where all the greater/lesser basilisk are ? "coran good dog ! Yes, good dog !" LoL. put him out in front of your party. he's completely immune to petrification. i was kinda surprised when no one mentioned that, cuz i always thought that's why the game put him there in the first place. p.s. and i thought greater basilisks were worth 7000 exp. ? please correct me if im wrong |

That's right; Greaters are 7000 and I think Lessers are 1400. There are actually 2 types of Protection from Petrification: The 2nd-level Mage spell and the green Protection Scroll, which can be used by anyone, as well as Potions of Mirrored Eyes. My favorite encounter with basilisks was when I was ambushed by a Lesser, along with about 9 Gibberlings. I was NOT prepared, and I was playing my Solo Thief.....and I WON!

1.- Korax the ghoul and summoned skeletons are inmune to petrification. Send them to scout ahead of you and battles become EASY
![]() 2.- Lesser basilisks are worth 1400 xp, and greater bassilisk are worth 4000 xp. Only SOME greater basilisks (the ones that have something to do with a quest, like the one´s that is with the gnome or the BG city one) are worth 7000. I just finished that area with my evil fighter thief before connecting, so im pretty sure about what i say ![]() ------------------ ![]() |

Hes talking about the ones under candlekeep, not the ones that are in the map thats west of the Friendly Arms Inn.
Could Kill, and Fireball both do a great job. Protection from petrification, and Potion of mirroreyes are the only way to stop petrification. |

I advise you people to try 'animate dead' and let the basilisks try to petrify them while your fighters do their stuff
