I recently went back to playing BG2. I am playing on a win2000 system. I keep having this error that kills the game and makes it really hard to play when avoiding the error. When I check the info box on most items in inventory I get:
"An Assertion Failed in InfScreenInventory.cpp at line number 9827"

I have found info for a similar problem on line number 9826 and I followed the advice (delete temp, tempsave and cache). No luck it still crashes. It makes the game hard to play because you don't know what you picked up (information wise) and I cannot identify an object with out going to a store.

Has anyone seen this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

The only advice i can give you is: patch up and get baldurdash. if that fails to work, you should try a re-install...

Sorry I should have added.
I tried from a fresh install.
I tried from a fresh install with the patch.
I have installed 4 times. Still the same problem.
I will try balderdash though.

I had the same problem, but what fixed mine was formatting my hard drive, but you can also try this, delete all of the Baldurs Gate 2 Registry files by going to, start menu, run and typing in regedit and press enter regestry editor should come up, then you go to find, and type in Baldurs Gate 2 and delete everything in that folder, because sometimes it may have missed a few files in the uninstallation process.

Hope this helps.

Updating Windows is free. Just go to your Start menu and look for the Windows Update link (you need an Internet connection).
