I just got and installed a really good mod. It was made by Gebhard Blucher and it is really good. Some NPC`s can become useful. You can change them but when you do they are changed forever.

Changes:
Imoen...
  • Thief
  • Assassin
  • Swashbuckler
  • Multi Thief/Mage
  • Wild Mage
  • Sorceress

    Mazzy...
  • Paladin
  • Cavalier
  • Undead Hunter

    Cernd...
  • Monk(!) & Monk w/original stats.
  • Totemic
  • Avenger
  • Druid

    Nalia...
  • Conjurer
  • Illusionist
  • Wild Mage
  • Sorceress
  • Multi Fighter/Mage

    Jaheira...
  • Cleric/Ranger

    Minsc...
  • Barbarian (w/ & w/o Boo in the normal inventory slot)
  • Berserker (w/ & w/o Boo in the normal inventory slot)

    Anomen...
  • Paladin
  • Cavalier

    Valygar...
  • Wizard Slayer
  • Kensai

He can dual class to Thief.

My choics:
Jaheira-C/R
Minsc-Barbarian
Anomen-Cavalier
Mazzy-Undead Hunter
Cernd-Monk
Nalia-Multi-Class F/M
Imoen-Mutli-Class T/M

I think it was Level 1 NPC`s Mod.

Yes, Gebhard Blucher's NPCs are great...you can build whatever party you want, with all the banters.

While it is a nice option, I would have some reservations with the effect of some of those class changes on the NPC's story and roleplaying. Nalia as a Fighter/Mage? hrmph. Jahiera as a Cleric/Ranger? That is just completely ignoring her current character.

It is an interesting idea which allows more flexibility , and generates more interest in some neglected characters which is good. But I would rather see smaller tweaks such as a redistribution in Nalia's Thief skills, or a small improvement to Cernd's stats than a complete change of character which in some cases is unable to be rationalised with their backgrounds.

"Hey, let's take this highly ineffectual NPCs and make them uber-leet so they can roxxor with my kensai/mage." It's the same wince I make whenever somebody posts about how they SKed Viconia into a sorcerer or something. Doesn't anybody realize that part of an NPC's character is why he/she gains or trains a certain class? (But no, Pirengle, you're a roleplayer, not a powergamer, so go back to your Jesters and pureclass Wizard Slayers and leave the +12 hackmasters alone. )

[/sarcasm]

The only two NPCs I could see changing are Valygar and Imoen. Imoen got DCed into a mage because as every BG1 player knows, most people DC Imoen into a mage around Chapter 5 in BG1 because she has 17 INT. Why, I don't know. Does she have a reason for wanting to be a mage? Not sure--the whiny purple beast never hangs out in my parties long enough for me to find out.

Valygar, however...

...why this guy is a stalker of all things boggles my mind. He's anti-magic, so of course he picks a ranger kit with priest AND wizard spells. Not only that, but his preferred enemy is golem. Why? Because his little subquest is full of pain-in-the-posterior golems. So, why is he a ranger? Because he has a getaway home outside Athkatla? Wrong. He's a ranger because somebody screwed up somewhere, either by taking out quests or his romance or just plain old screwing up. He's a wizard slayer, pure, plain, and simple.

Yet in my mind there's a difference between changing a character to fit his or her actions and changing a character to cope with percieved inadequacies. Am I the only one who feels this way?
