I have just installed the "respawning" patch for ToSC - and everything was fine for about 3 minutes (!). I then lost all sound in the game - it crashed back to windows, and when I tried starting the game again I get a windows error message _ "Assertion Error in D:\Dev\chitin\chDimm.cpp line no 581. Unable to open BIF
 ata\SFXsound.bif" I have fully installed both BG & ToSC. I have tried to open several times, to no avail. PLEASE don't tell me I have to reinstall/lose my saves!!! I would also like to add my heartfelt thanks to this forum - searching through old posts has answered many a perplexing problem! |

I actually do not know what the respawning patch is. Did you install this over the legal Tales of the S.C patch? If so, maybe that could be your problem. I do not know if you can remove that patch and reinstall the ToSC patch. Hopefully, somebody who knows exactly what is going on will be with you momentarily.

Yeah i know what's the problem, Sorcerer Alex had a similar problem in his thread Assertion Errors I gave him a heap of possible solutions so instead of posting them all again just pop over to that thread and hopefully your problem will be solved there

Maybe the download got corupted, try downloading the patch again from a different source with your download manager disabeled.

try deleting the baldurs gate/cache/data file, then relog in at your saved game, should fix any corrupted files
