Last time i went through BG1 i equiped my intire party with ranged weapons! We were absolutly unstopable!!! Once i got my hands on some arrows of detonation we really were heavily overpowered, not a single bady gave us a hard time.
Just pointing out an easy way to beat the game. |

Hm. I usually have 5 people doing range assault while my invincible Tank runs up & starts whalin' on people. With your way (not that I'm saying your way is bad), enemy archers will fire at whichever member of your party is closer, meaning your Mage still takes some hits. With my way, everybody's wasting their time trying to hurt my tank (Boots of Speed, AC of -11, THAC0=2, 120 HP at Level 8), while my 5 other guys can cheerfully fire away while no one's even aiming at them.
Arrows of detonation DO kick ass, of course, but I wouldn't use them a lot, and I certainly wouldn't use them with my Tank in the thick of things. MAJOR SPOILER - - - - - - - - - - - I took out the top floor of the Iron Throne for the 3rd time on Saturday. There were 5 members of my party who could use bows. I gave them each two Arrows of Detonation, then cast Chant and Haste. OH, MY GOD. ------------------ Boots of Stealth: 1125 gp Shadow Armor: 7875 gp Slipping an Oil of Firey Burning down the back of Sarevok's armor: Priceless [This message has been edited by SixOfSpades (edited 10-15-2001).] |

Another easy way (even though it is a bit of a cheat) is too have loads of the raise dead spells so that with enough people you could raise about 84 skeletons. It slows the game down but theres no way you ever die. It looks pretty funny too!

'Arrows of Detonation?' More like fire support if you ask me. Even though I have guys that can do both, I still have Minsc and Kivan swing three-odd feet of cold steel. Target priority seems to be about who is seen first. Only under extreme damage do those wags turn around and start on people that have been knocking seven bells out of them.
BTW Those stats are evil Six'. Just what exactly are you playing? ------------------ Making running away an art form |

Those arrows and some of the exploding potions for non archers with a fire proof tank up front, simple obliteration. I like experimenting with different tactics as well. Back attacking from improved invis. is totaly game unbalancing. Sumoning monsters between you and the big badies while you range/spell thier lives away. Those last two together = dead brother, every time. Speed/haste is a must for doubling your pleasure (+ speed boots, REAL funny watching my little tank run). My new favorate indoor tactic is lightning spells/wands with 4th level priest spell - protection from elec. (gives 100%). If you keep casting them and with the way they bounce around, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Especially enjoyable in the chess game. I'm about to try a new tactic; but, I need some clarification. When cloudkill is used against/by me, will the protection from poison scrolls give me imunity to the cloudkill's poison? Could be quite the wicked tactic if my tank was so protected. I always refrain from magic protection/blocking crap 'cause I like to hop my guys up on potions and spells and whatever else the dealer on the corner will sell me (just a joke guys).

Good point Telchar, what I would ask though is about that chess game. I've just got to that area in BG and considering how you get there, it's not that easy. After that fight, you have this big mob that charges in no matter what move I seem to make. Just what is all that about?

About target priority, Brass: You're right, the bad guys attack the first person they see, and keep firing for as long as they can see them. So whenever I see the message "attacks Imoen," I know I've got to pull her back, so the guy will aim at my Tank like he's supposed to. You can also force them to switch targets by getting in their face: I've NEVER seen a bad guy fire an arrow when there was someone within melee range.
Thanks, I like those 'evil' stats, too. ![]() ![]() SPOILERS - - - - - I went to the Friendly Arm not to get Jahiera, but to get her Potion of Invisibility. Then I made a beeline to the lighthouse map (picking up Kivan on the way), and had Imoen nick the Manual for me. I had 19 CON before I hit Level 2. That gave me a possible 16 HP to gain at each level; I didn't settle for less than 12. And 5 of those HP are from the Helm of Balduran. His THAC0 is from a combination of 19 STR, his being Level 8, and the Defender. His THAC0 with a fist is 10. I can't wait to Backstab with this dude. ![]() ------------------ Boots of Stealth: 1125 gp Shadow Armor: 7875 gp Slipping an Oil of Firey Burning down the back of Sarevok's armor: Priceless |

The dudes that are on you in a second are the enemy pawns. Summon monsters to keep them off your back lines. I try not to HAVE to do anything; but, this will save your poor AC types. To end this fight asap, you have to get the opponent's king to appear, and of course kill him. Once you kill the king, game over. I don't know what exact circumstances it takes to make him appear, sorry. I tend to kill to get max XP. You don't get any extra XP for killing him early. You need to get someone in thier back line and start taking 'em out. Get those archers out of there + disrupt the spell slingers. While your tank is taking out the back row, the king will appear.
Oh, I forgot my favorate tactic for the ones with the big mouths - While I'm leaning over them, removing the valuables from thier still quivering, smoking, hissing bodies, I like to say "Uh... I'm sorry; but, what was that you said again?" ------------------ "Remember this day. Remember it well. Then you can say, I was there that night with Arthur the king. Missile weapons are pretty effective, I just get sick of stocking up on arrows, bullets etc. Especially if you run out somewhere and can't get any more
