Im just wondering if it has to be your main character that gets the charisma bonus when buying items from shops.

My half-orc barbarian has these stats:

Strength-19
dexterity-18
constitution-19
intelligence-9
wisdom-7
charisma-10

i would usually just pick up the ring of human influence at the start so charisma would be boosted to 18 but im playin bgt so i start in bg1 and cant get it. Can anyone help?

Its the character that initiates the conversation that is used to determine CHA bonuses.

So go to the gnoll 'hold, grab the ToCHA , and give it to Immy.

Ehrm, Andrewas, this is the BG 2 forum.

But to Ross: There is a nice ring that will raise your charisma to 18 as long as you wear it. The quest where you get it is also extremely easy and can be done right out of Irenicus' Dungeon (perhaps you might need to rest first) and you don't even need to leave the Promenade to get it.

Go fetch the ring before you start buying anything bigger than a round of drinks.

The OP specificly said that he was playing the baldurs gate trilogy (the BGII mod), was in the BG1 part of the game, and said that he didnt have access to the ring of human influance. Its all right there in the last sentence of his post.

Might have been nice if the original post was intelligible, but then again, my accent makes me sound like I have a mouth full of marbles. (Not used to the BGT acronym yet.)

In BG1, reputation matters more than charisma when it comes to store discounts. Besides, you're not going to be making any major purchases until at least midway through Chapter 3, and that's when money matters. By then, you should have a mage that knows Friends, or a character with higher CHA.

We need a Supreme Court to hand down big decisions on spoilers now?

My own little set of rules concerning spoilers:
--If it concerns a certain game, put it on that game's board.
--If it concerns two games, put it on the game board that causes the least amount of spoilage. (This question basically asked "how do I raise my CHA in BG1? BTW, I'm playing the Trilogy.")
--If it concerns a part of an expansion pack accessible in the "normal" game, put it on the expansion pack board OR put in the title that it contains expansion pack spoilers.
--If it involves anything about ToB, put it on the ToB board. If you want a fast answer, go find a walkthrough and look up the answer yourself.
--Put a note of the chapter you're in with the subject heading (like [chapter X spoilers]) so people won't spoil you too badly.

People aren't giving enough details when they post, so it's hard to give advice that isn't going to spoil the bejeezus out of them. But that's a Dennis Miller-style rant for another day.

IS there even a BG1 board? I mean, I would understand if he was talking about Icewind Dale, but come on...give the brother a break. And sign me up for that Supreme Court...even if i'm just the guy who says "all rise" :-D

Yes, there is a BG1 board. Its fairly active as well, only a little slower than ToB and definately faster than IWD1.
