"you cannot rest at this time" aaaauuuuugggghh

This may be a repeated and stupid question. If so I beg you of great knowledge to gather some patience and help this ignorant and fast fading soul. My head hurts from beating it against the desk. Mayhaps someone could explain why....oh why is it that sometimes I "cannot rest at this time"? I am standing next to an inn keeper. What am I doing wrong!!? I am not allowed to save either. Thanking you in advance.....Lynn

Reason number one may be that someone is trying to talk to you or someone just did talk to you and has yet to clear the scene.

Chatty people need to be at last 100yards away to ensure you a good nights rest.

Is your party scattered? Are you being attacked? Does one of your characters have a conversation/bartering symbol in their portrait? (I once had a minor glitch where such symbols would not go away no matter what I did. This occurance stopped as mysteriously as it began.)

Wait for the barkeeper's audio clip to end. That is my most common problem when I cannot rest.

is there some sort of effect like poison on one of your characters? thats the only other reason i can think of.

could be yep - spell animations seem to need to clear as well

My PC died because of resting while poisened a couple of times!! Can be very irritating, as the game is over.

And about the resting thing, try leaving the area you are in. That sometimes worked for me...

How long had you been playing? I had this problem occasionally after several hours of playing. Walk off the map at an auto save, quit, and restart your system, reload the autosave, and try again. Always worked for me.

I think it's a bug, even I found my self in thet situation (I couldn't save).
Usually it sed: "you cannot save during combat" or simply "you cannot save now".
I first tried resting, once you've rested you can save (it doesen't matter if a guard awakes you), if you can't even rest try mooving or entering the sewers (it will save before loading the area).
