Hi everyone, I have just installed SoA and have a few questions:
(1) What kind of patches etc should i install?
(2) How do i import a character from BG1?
(3) Should i play the first time through SoA with a solo game?, or stick to a party?, they just seem so boring after a solo experience!, but i would like to have a chance to experience all the class and kit combinations.

And any other general helpful hints would be much appreciated.

1) Well you'll want the Offical SoA patch from Bioware's site, and I would reccomand that you download the Baldurdash fixpack as well. Not certain of the site url atm, but you can find it rather fast on Google searching for Baldurdash.

2. Hmm not certain of that, but I think you have to start a new game of SoA, and when you create a character, I think there is a button called Import Character or close to it. Not certain as I've not needed to import characters myself.

3) I would advise a party at first, as SoA contains much harder enemies than the orginial Baldur's Gate game. After a party or two games under your belt, then you'll be well equipped to solo! Plus the character interaction is much improved from the orginal BG game IMHO.

You need to install BG2 first, then export the BG1 character and transfer it to the character folder in BG2, then start a new game in BG2 and import the character.

Party would be best for a first time round experience. BG2 is quite different from BG1, especially in terms of what you will encounter.

The first time through is best for all quests, RPGs and some actions with strong storyline like Half-Life.

I was shaking with fear when I first saw a lich (that was the Elemental one) and especially when he cast his hm.. certain the-most-powerful spell

And the storyline in BG I - with all the dopplegangers, accusations and politic schemes made me wander around for a week, muttering some strange things, frightening my family and friends - I was getting together all the pieces of the puzzle, recreating the full picture of what had happened.

Sometimes I just Wish that I forgot all the things I know about BG series (storyline, monster/trap location etc) and started all this again

yeah, thats one of the main reasons for me getting SoA. Anyway, a couple more questions i have:

(1) What is all this romance and love talk about?, do some kind of romances happen between characters?, and does it effect the game?

(2) I have successfully imported my gnomish fighter/illusionist from BG1, but he was lawful good, which i would rather not be anymore. Is there anyway to change his alignment and keep the character intact?

I have just started the game and it rocks so far!, a little different and ots taking a while to get used to but im liking it, except for the paperdolls and some of the weapons- they look quite tinny, but a minor price to pay for such a from what i have heard, great game.

As for the paperdolls and weapons - you are really going to get used to it. Just relax and let the things go the way they should.

Romance is a BGII - introduced feature. SoA has much party member banter, which is ah-so-good, even a thing that can beat soloing in terms of fun. I recommend experiencing a romance yourself - its pretty cool! And it does not affect the game in any way, save some minor ones (chapter 6 - never worry, it is a think that you sure can handle). And a certain romance can yield you some very decent equipment for spellcaster.

Just enjoy the game the way it is. It is an alternative life, act accordingly!

There is one way to change your alignment - use ShadowKeeper, savegame editor for SoA (and ToB). I don't have a link at my disposal now, so I hope some other guy will come up with it fastly.

I just wish that I had an opportunity to have an another first walkthrough on BG series....

Oh you know... female meets male, one likes the other, wooing ensures, dialogue happens, blah-blah-blah, both live happily ever after. Ideally.

It does affect the game, but not too majorly. If your protagonist is a male, it would be quite hard to avoid any of the default options. Different story if you are a female.

Just party around. You will know when a romance is developing, because of the sappy music.

There is only one romance that affects two NPCs, and it can affect your own romance. Not likely to happen though... since one of them( both, some cynics would say) is highly unpopular with the general crowd.

Other than the game editor, your only options are rather extreme ones, and they only occur towards the end of the game. If Neutral Evil is what you want, just go with flow and it will happen.
