HELP ME. major durlags bug

Just as I feared...every time I've played Durlags, there has always been some problem of this vein. And, of course, why should it be any different this time around?

Here's the deal...I've gone down to the first sub-level of Durlag's Tower (with the Dwarven Warden guys)...i went in and talked to them each, and then methodically cleared out the whole floor and collected all the necessary items to handle each task.

after doing this, i went to the machine that needs the switch to begin. my main guy is holding the switch in his inventory, but the machine doesn't register it whatsoever. so i went and tried to talk to the dwarves again...the AVARICE one said i had completed his quest (which i hadn't) and he left. the remaining three won't say a word to me. after this, i went to the four books and read them in L-->R order to activate the sword. nothing happens whatsoever. the gong and the forge are unresponsive too. please help me! i'm very eager to finish Durlag's Tower so i can beat BG and import my guy to BGII promptly.

i've heard a lot of suggestions and what not relating to this level. in case it is too much effort to reload an early save and remedy whatever may be wrong, can someone please tell me the AREA # for the following area so i can at least use the CLUAConsole to get my guys to the next area? i'm in desperate need...

somebody help me!

thanks for the link.

i'm aware of what exactly needs to be done, but the walkthrough doesn't really specify what i'm wondering...is there a certain order all the stuff must be done in? (other than love being done last?) i don't know if this is significant or not. for instance, do you have to talk to just one warder, then do his quest before talking to any other? i don't see any other reason why i would get stuck on the level in the manner that i am.

*OK, i've gone back and reloaded at the beginning of the Warder level. this time i cleared out the whole area and collected all the items needed before i talked to any of the warders...regardless, no matter what i order i talk to them in or try to do each task afterwards, it just doesn't register! i have the mallet head and handle on the same guy, but when i go to the forge it doesn't make the mallet for me. i try to put the handle in the machine, and that doesn't work either. i read all the Durlag books, and his sword doesn't light up. the only thing that works is AVARICE, i assume because it simply involves having that one blue gem which he takes from you. i am assuming this is a HUGE bug in the game or something. does anyone know if a patch will fix this.....or can someone give me the Area # for the next catacomb level of Durlags so i can just GET THIS PAIN OVER WITH???*

problem solved. i had already downloaded the ToSC patch when i installed BG and Tales together, but i downloaded it/installed it again and that solved the problem...it was definitely some kind of bug. be weary of such horrible little things.
