BG2 Newbie

I'm a BG veteran just moving on from the original, and before I start my game (installing now) I was wondering if there was anything I should know before playing. Thanks in advance.

First: welcome to the forum.

Second make sure you download and install the appropriate fixes and patches. It will save you many headaches in the long run. The sticky message at the top (Forum guidelines and FAQ) should have all the download sites you would need.

I fondly remember plowing through the game my first time. I missed over half the quests and nearly killed a coupe of my BPC friends. All in all it is amazing I made it to the end. My suggestion is to do just that. Charge ahead and don’t’ be afraid of making mistakes and just have fun with it.

Where is the exit of the floor I am on? I'm in the very first place you start at. Killed quite a few critters, though.

If you're still in the map where you began, I believe you have yet to go through a "portal" (those circular waving force-field things)... if you haven't seen one yet, they're there...

If you HAVE been through a portal, that's different, there is an exit to the dungeon on the new map, but you really can't miss it if you explore enough.

Explore everywhere. Crack open every chest, barrel, bookcase, desk, piece of furniture you can crack. Once you've looted everything from everywhere and removed the "fog of war" from everywhere on the map, the exit will become clear. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Don't rush anywhere, enjoy the game. Few quests are time limited.
Use your brain (this game has much more puzzles than BG1).
Always look for traps in dungeons.

Don't use walkthrough until you have became BG2 veteran as well.
