Okay as you know the 5th level clerical spell True Sight allows you to see people who are invisible. I am wondering does that only apply magicly? A thief hiding in the shadows isn't really using magic to make him hide. Aren't the thieves hiding behind curtains and stuff? But why oh why when my swashbucker is hiding in the shadows and the Yuan-Ti casts TS he sees my swashie?
Cheerio dude Sythe

True Seeying (level 5 cleric spell) detects only magical illusions, it does not state anything about a thief being detected when he hide's in shadows.
But thiefs do indeed get detected by it... rather strange, because it's nothing magical about it; they use there skill to avoid being seen. [add] It could be that HiS (Hide in Shadows) is the same as invisiblty, it could be that BG II definine's HiS and Invic as the same. [ 04-06-2003, 04:58 PM: Message edited by: Annatar ]

While True SEEING only affects magical illusions, true SIGHT (level I-forget mage spell), detects *everything* that makes a character harder to see. This includes, all illusion spells, HiS, Potion of Invisibility, and anything else you care to name.
Judging by the rest of the spells they cast, Yuan-Ti are mages, and therefore cast Mage spells. Thus, they are meant to see your swashie. |

True Seeing and True Sight are indentical in their implementation: Your Stealth WILL be dispelled, unless you're wearing an item that grants permanent Non-Detection.
I don't know about you, but I've always considered Stealth to be magical in nature. Sure, Thieves are supposed to be able to duck into shadowy alcoves and the cover of underbrush with the greatest of ease, but if they were to abide by the same laws of physics that all other mortals must adhere to, then they would become perfectly visible again once they re-emerged. Also, how do you explain their ability to go Stealth in the middle of an open field in broad daylight? And if they were simply hiding, as you or I can do, then any creature with Infravision (Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, practically every other creature in the game) would be able to see them perfectly well. No, apparently Thieves' Stealth ability is a type of Invisibility that's only guaranteed to fail when some enemy is watching you very closely.
