What makes the best class choice for an evil character?
In the evil roster, we have the following folk. Edwin. Evil Mage. (Whom I personally can't stand.) Viccy. Evil Drow Temptress and part time Cleric. Korgan. Evil Kneecap Slashing Dwarf. Also, lets look at some of the Neutrals who might join you, but, you can't be to terribly evil around them as they will leave. Jan. Arguably the best Thief type NPC in the game. Haer Dalis. A Tiefling Blade. Can be useful, but, also annoying. Anomen. If you make him fail his tests, he becomes Chaotic Neutral, however, he is now stuck with sucky Cleric stats. Jaheira/Cernd. It is possible to keep them with an evil party, up to a point. If you do the Trademeet Quests in an evil fashion, could cause quite a few problems. Imoen. She will follow you blindly, up to a point. So, with these folks and their talents in mind, what makes a evil character worth having? In a really evil party, as in one where you know your reputation is bound to hit 1 sooner or later, you will lack in three areas. A Thief, a backup Cleric, and a backup Mage. However, a Cleric/Mage/Thief is not a valid triple class in BG SoA. (It is a valid combo though. Bonus points to those that know enough about D&D lore to know which race can do this. Hint. Think Dragonlance Edition Rules) The first thing that comes to mind for an Evil Party would be an Assassin of some sort. Either pure classed or dualed later to something else. Perhaps a Fighter or a Cleric. The second would be either a Half Elven F/M/T or F/M/C. With the last option, traps would just have to be dealt with the hard way. Another option would be a Sorcerer, a handy compliment to Edwin's power. Once again, traps become an issue. So, opinions please. Keep in mind I am talking about vanilla SoA only, please, leave mods out. Thank you. |

Yes, but don't forget that Jan and Haer'Dalis are both Chaotic Nuetral Butters, they could probably care less on what evil characters do. Don't forget, a character with the CN alignment means they do any and all things at random, they could save a lost child one day and go ankle biting the next. But to answer your original question about how an evil character is worth having or not, they are. It's weird, but evil characters like Edwin and them come to be the best NPC's in the game (with the exception of Mini Tank Mazzy Fintan
![]() Only plus sides to having an evil NPC is that no matter how many people you kill or how low your rep goes, they never leave. Viconia is the best cleric in the game, to me anyway (to Anomen, I say ), she can make a pretty decent tank and she's got some awesome spells that could come in handy. (Ex.- Firestorm on Improved Torgal) Korgan, I never used really so I won't be much help there. If you want a thief, why not just get Imoen, I've had my rep sink real low and I've never had her leave I don't think.
Originally posted by Butterfingers: So, opinions please. Not really a mod, but if you'd like, and some vets here may consider this cheesy but you could always change one of the evil Pc's classes with shadow keeper. Make Viccy a Cleric/Fighter, Korgan a Fighter/Thief and just leave Edwin where he is. That's my 2 cents, peace. PS- Beat you this time Xero |

No, my question was what makes the best PC to compliment the evil characters that already exist.
As for the Chaotic Neutrals, while they might be handy, when I play Evil, I really play EVIL. My reputation is bound to plummet to 1 and stay there sooner or later, causing anybody not dedicated to my evil cause to leave me. |

I'd say fighter-thief. Fighter up to level 9 or 10, then dualled to thief early. Perhaps recruit Jan for a little while until your thieving skills are up to par. Do easy quests - Copper Coronet, Xzar - to build up easy XP.
That gives you the core group of Thief, Mage, Fighter, Cleric; three of whch can fight reasonably well. Can't get more balanced than that. When I get her back, I tend to change Imoen's alignment to Neutral Evil. She's your lifelong friend, your best buddy, how can she be Neutral Good?

I was thinking about an Evil Barbarian as well. Two characters with Rage abilities would be most useful. To be able to use all of the good weapons in the game, have him get stars in maces, longswords, and flails. (FoA, IMoD, and plenty of good longswords) Dual wield, of course. Or, could go two handed style and shoot for spears and halbreds and quarterstaves as well.

grrr, you beat me by a long shot this time Gangrell.. but you wont be so lucky next time
![]() As for the question, for an evil party, take Jan along. hes chaotic neutral, he wont care what goes on. Take Edwin for your spellcaster, hes great, Viccy as you cleric, best in game IMO, Korgan as one tank, my favorite in the game, maybe make Barbarian too using 2 handers (sword of choas +2 anyone?), your pc as maybe a asassin or some kind of thief, then maybe another created character or Haer'Dalis. for One created character, like people said, would be necromancer. that covers all your good spell jan cant get, ADHW, finger of death, etc. etc. you might want to make the necro instead of haer'dalis because you allready have two tanks, korgan and the barbarian.

I've only played Evil twice in BG2.
Party 1: PC: NE Half-Elven Cleric/Thief Korgan Viconia Edwin Montaron (play normally until you get back into the Harper Hold, or just block the doorway. Collect Monty's Body, have Viconia cast Raise Dead on his corpse. Save the gave, go to Multiplayer, create a Montaron with the exact same stats as he had in BG1, along with maybe a choice piece of equipment or 2 [such as Kiel's Buckler], Reload the game, and pretend that the Raise Dead actually worked. Make sure to download Monty's soundset from Sorcerer's Place.) Party 2: PC: NE Half-Orc Barbarian Imoen Cernd Edwin Valygar Aerie, perhaps? I forget. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since you say that your Reputation will hit 1, you are definitely going to need to be some kind of Thief, unless you make more than 1 PC. I suggest an Assassin->Mage, although to really harness the Mage power you won't get to see your great Backstabbing numbers. Otherwise, a Swashbuckler->Mage would work out just fine. (Which race for the C/T/M? Definitely Gnome.)

SPOILER ALERT!
. . . . . . . . . . But if your PC is a thief, you can't work for evil Bodhi, because she doesn't trust thieves. You have to fight for the "good" side instead of the vampires. Or does this only work with pureclass thieves?
