I started BG2 game with a Ranger?Cleric...

My party is:
Me
Minsc
Aerie
Nalia
Yoshimo (4 Quest, will be replaced by Imoen later)

I want to fill in the 6th slot with wither Keldorn or Mazzy. Which is the choice that will benefit me in the long run?

hmmmm... you could do good with either. Keldorn is good tank, but you got minsc, so i would suggest mazzy. with the gm patch she can be gm in anything she wants so you can pick something else other than what she has (ex. someone here (sorry, forgot who) made her gm in spears, then used the impaler +3

Are your main character a tank type?

Keldorn is really good tank material with solid hitting power. Give him the Gauntlets of dexterity and he is ready to roll. His great stock of disspells and his immunities are also extremely helpful. Quest-wise I always found him a bit ambigous. Afterall keeping him in your party could ruin his relationship to his wife and children.

Mazzy is also a Lawful Goodie, but she is a more of a dedicated adventurer. Mazzy was clearly intended to be an archer type and she is damn good at it, but she can also be turned into a very effective tank because of her high dex and racial saving throw bonuses. Her innate abilities are also quite neat rivalling your Bhaalspawn powers in usefulness.
