start a multiplayer game, roll up three chars for yourself and go

good idea to put up a password so there will be no interuptions

also, once you're going, you can copy your save game folder from the msave to the save folder, then you can play with your own three chars in single player mode

Actually, you don't have to be connected to Internet. You can start a game with a serial connection.

If the idea of a multi-playergame still doesn't seem right to you, I think you could also move the folder with the multi-playersave to the folder with the single-player saves. But not much to gain from that.

But there is much to gain - if nothing else, it is the shorter loading time. Then pausing. And there is no that hideous chat line.

True, but you won't be able to modify the composition of the party that easily, officially, that is. In multi-playergames you've got more freedom in that department... But it depends on if you actually want changes in the first place during the game. If not, by all means, turn your multi-playergame into a single-playergame for the reasons Vedran mentioned.
