I’m currently running a solo campaign with a Swashbuckler and am planning to dual him to a mage soon. I just achieved level 14.
What is the best level to dual him on?
I was thinking level 12 but I wanted to get my THAC0 a little better.

First of all, check out this post.

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...c;f=2;t=019431

It's about Kensai's... but the level up information is still pretty relevant to you.

Most people tend to level up at L13, simply to get the extra fighter attacks.

Powergamers look at the maximum experience they can get, and simply pick off the highest level they can attain and still get one level higher as a second class.

e.g. With ToB installed and 8 million exp cap, we can get L21 fighter/L22 mage = All abilities of L21 fighter and L22 mage. Mmmmmmm - thats a tasty burger.

The OTHER way of doing it is looking at the special abilities of your fighter class (was it swashbuckler?) and see when you get them... it's usually every 3 or 4 levels. We also get weapon proficiencies every 3 levels...

Then just see how well they divide into the level you want (24 divides pretty well between 4 and 3, but its a little too high).

Check the benefits available to you before dual classing.

The basic template for Swashies who want to dual to a Mage is level 15.

...wouldn't you be nearly finished the game by the time you have re-activated your original class ? thereby defeating the purpose.

Not if you're soloing, or playing with a reduced party (fewer than 6 members). As a Solo Sorcerer, Dundee says he usually hits the EXP cap for ToB before he's even left the Underdark.

Yea..my solo Kensai/Thief (Halberds all the way!) has reached the cap before the Underdark as well. I dont really like hitting the cap with a melee fighter though..game gets boring quickly. Oh well. Blade with Halberds is next.

You could always manipulate the XP required for each new level like I did I also think the game quickly becomes rather boring once your character ceases to grow, so I dramatically increased the required amount beyond lvl 12 for my Swashbuckler. A thief normally has to get 220 000 pts to gain a new level beyond lvl 12 (?), I changed that to 500 000 pts up until lvl 30, from lvl 30 to lvl 40, 600 000 pts was required, and finally from lvl 40 to 50, 700 000 pts per level

Though my solo Swashie is STILL at a ridiculous lvl 34 before even doing Suldanesslar (though I have almost cleared out WK). So I'm thinking of raising the required amount by even more for my next character, maybe make it 300 000 pts from lvl 13 and then increase the gap by 50 000 pts each level.

Anyway, tweaking this gap is not complicated in the least. Just find the XPLevel.2DA file in your override folder (you may have to extract it if you don't already have a mod that did so for you when you installed it), and open it with Notepad. The numbers should be obvious enough, just change to them whatever you want and save it with the same name and same source.

You mean my XP numbers?

14 -> 1 720 000
15 -> 2 220 000
16 -> 2 720 000
17 -> 3 220 000
18 -> 3 720 000

And so on...

I also changed the level where I first receive HLA's to lvl 18 to match these new numbers. To do this, edit the file LUNumAb.2DA, it should also be pretty straight-forward.
