Newbie searching for location of characters to use

I am extremely new to the whole D&D / Baldur's Gate games. I just bought it last week.

Does anyone know if there is a location to download some cool characters to use my main character.

or w/ your main character
if you really want to make a character use shadow keeper
but just roll until you get good scores and play w/ them

i don't know if there is a place to download PCs. There are a few npc mods, and you can use a trick to make people in multiplayer and bring them into the single player game but i don't know the specfics
plus if you really want to you can use shadow keeper to alter your stats, i don't reccomend that though(as it's blatant cheating) What classes were you considering?

I was thinking of a ranger type - do you have a clue what is best?

Well there isn't really a best, a ranger is a good starting class because fighters get lotsa hitpoints, ranger have some special abilities and not many disadvantages plus they can get some spells at high levels. (Do you have throne of bhaal, if not i highly recommend it?)
Paladins are good for exactly the same reasons(especially the paladin kits also they get one of the best weapons in the game)
I really like the kensai but i wouldn't reccomend it for a first timer
ditto w/ sorcerers
clerics can be good but thier are plenty in the game(also relatively easy to play)
mages can be tough when your unfamillar w/ the spell system
don't play as a monk, very hard for a newbie
druids level kind of slow and have some other disadvantages when compared w/ clerics
thieves can be good especially when you consider the lack of a good thief character in bg2 but again hard to play through the first time
