So, i really must say i'm very disappointed in the RPG industry as of late - the number of titles to look forward to is incredibly slim.
I wonder why it is that the industry cannot or will not create more story/plot based games. All that they seem to care about creating are 'pretty' games with little or no roleplay ability to them. Take fallout 3, huge potential....but there is a disturbing lack of player interactivity with the world. eg very little questing, few interesting dialogues or situations. I need more choices in my interactions ugh! Drakesang was refreshing in that it felt closer to a classic RPG in feel, but it has very limited replay because theres basically only two ways to anything; no grey areas and or non-linear play. I really wish developers would stop trying to make HUGE worlds that just feel empty; we need smaller worlds with lots of choices. I guess im kind of just in a rut with the genre; mass effect Hmm, i suppose i could post this in the games forum but it seems as though almost the entire iron works is pretty much dead as far as posting is concerned except for general discussion. So i guess the iron works itself is in a rut as well. |

I agree, there just doesnt seem to be much out there. I long for a Baldurs Gate type of game.

Well, I'm easily six months ahead of time, but there is a new game in the works, based on MM6. I'm one of the alpha testers, and I can tell you that while the maps are the same, the game content is completely different... new classes, new quests, new storyline. Some of the mechanics are the same, but much is different.
It's expected to be ready sometime around November... but please, no breath-holding unless you've got one of those special portable hole of air thingies... ![]() Aside from that, I concur. I'm really a classic RPGer... develop characters, follow a storyline, make something happen. Eye candy is cool, but if it's the *only* thing a game has going for it... forget it.

I'm dying to play a NEW first person view party based rpg. I don't mind playing Might and magic 6,7,8 or Wizardry 8 or even Wizards and Warriors again and again. But after playing it like for all eternity, a new game would be nice.
Is is too much to ask the game developers to create a fricking first person view party based rpg? |

Type of game I would like:
The game should be like Baldur's gate I, but much better graphics. Very large world. The party can be bigger than 6 but not too big like more than 10. More interaction with the environment. A lot of quests. If you stop playing for a few months then it should be easy to pick up and figure out where in the game you are. I don't want there to be too many different types of items that you cant keep track of them. I would like there to be many different races. The romances were a great idea, they should be much longer, and npc interactions should also be included and be extended, so it should be like BG II in that sense. The game should start with the character at level 1, and with basically nothing, not how bg II started. Thats all I can think of now.

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THAT!!
Here's what I've been playing this week. FF3 a la emulator! It's actually a lot of fun. ![]() I was just saying last week that they have forgotten how to make the good/fun games. They just have too much junk in 'em now; if you can even find one. Eschalon Book 1 is actually pretty good. It's small, but fun. You just pay to download it from their site. It is top down perspective though. Gods: Lands of Infinity is pretty good too. Not much reply value though. Again, you just pay to download it. ..someone needs to make a new game with the Wiz 8 engine..

As for the new games/genre idea....well, this site 'as it is' seems to take up a lot of Z's time. I know it takes up too much of his money.

Don't know on the MMT game. I *think* I played a beta of a (the) new MM Tribute.... worked fine on XP since it used a different engine.
The one I'm alpha testing is not the MMT. It's a different one, developed by Big Daddy Jim (of the MM7 mod) and a few other folks, and based on the MM6 engine. You'll want Mok's patch in place, but no Dosbox needed ![]()

I still believe BGII is one of the best games every made. LOTS of replay potential and enough different quests, NPCs and potential parties to keep me occupied for a long time. I never did explore ALL of the character and party builds I wanted to do. As for MMORPGs, the key is obviously finding a good server with active DM/QM interaction. The one I play has seen several ups and downs (including two extended stretches where it was shut down completely). But it has everything a classic RPGer could want; characters start at level 1 with minimal gear and gold, several races available (including a few customized subraces), literally unlimited potential for character builds (the server used to be extremely challenging, leading to players designing uber builds. The challenge level has been adjusted so literally any class or build can find success), lots of interaction, help and advice from veteran players and a decent player base so it's always easy to find a party. There are also numerous static quests on the server as well as semi-regular quests run by the QM team. Characters also have permanent impact on the server. One of my characters owns a store and most of the town mayors are also PCs. So that is what I spend my time on. I've thought about re-loading BGI&II on my PC, but with online classes, substitute work and online gaming, I really don't have much time for adding anything else right now.
