I'm terrible with names, sorry about that...

So I gave the elf lantern to the elf dude and he took me to the doors of the elf city. He went in and told me to follow, which I did. Then came the 'saving game' screen, 'loading game'... and everything stopped. I had to reset the computer, thinking "huh, weird". I tried again, loaded the auto-save, and again the same thing... I tried walking around, killing some nasty mists, then returned to the doors... and it got stuck on the same place.

I'm all patched up, and the only mod I have is Solaufein. Anyone else went through this? What should I do?

1) Could be a scratched CD.
2) Savegame could be corrupted.

It's nothing within the engine, because I've never had that problem, in all my around 10 times to Suldanesselar.

Did you do a full install? Because if you have then youll have a corrupt file on disk. If someone happens to know which .bif file suldanesselars stored in they can tell you for sure, but copying all the .bif files from CD4/data into your BG2/data folder should fix it.

Nope, haven't done a full install...
I'll try copying the .bif files.Thanks! ^_^

If that doesn't work, I'll use the cheat code I just got. (yes, I'm that desperate) Would that change the game? Will a big sign saying "CHEATER!" come up after I finish it? )

Only in your own mind. Problem with cheating in this instance is if Im reading this right, any method of entering suldanesselars main area will get this error. Which means you need to warp straight to the final battle. Well, finaly sequence posibly, if you also cheat yourself the items you cant get without suldanesselar.

If it isnt a full install you probably want to copy the .bif files from CD1. Or is it CD2, how does BG2 install anyway? Ive never done anything less than a full install so Im not sure which files you need. It might just be easier to re-install the game from scratch. Make sure you have the latest patch before uninstalling though, else youll get into all kinds of trouble. (The uninstall routines bugged)

*sigh* yeah, that didn't work.

Do I have to re-download the patches if I uninstall?

Yes, you will need to reinstall the patches. You shoudnt need to backup your save games though, but probably do it anyway. The bg2\saves folder is where there kept.

MOVIE! The error is in the movie. When you go through those doors, you SHOULD get a nice little flythrough of Suldenesselar, much like the one for Spellhold. If you don't, well, there's your problem.

The movie is on Disc 5 (I think), so make sure that's the one you've got in the drive.
You should probably be able to use cheats to teleport past the movie.

Then again, if the game locks up while the map area is loading (as you said, it crashes at the exact same spot every time), it might be the map area after all. Come to think of it, when I have a problem with a movie, it always crashes during the movie.
