QUESTION: IS IT CHEESE FOR A SOLO MAGE TO USE THE STAFF OF THE MAGI?

Hey everybody, just a poll question here

i'm doing a solo mage at the moment. I am now level 16 and ready to continue onto chapter 4. (this is the same solo mage i completed BGI with and i will post a report of the adventure, which i am updating gradually, when i am finished)

a friend has my TOB disk but i have obtained all the items i have felt neccessary to continue onto chapter 4 including the most recent: the staff of the magi.

i hear much cheese about this item but do you consider it cheese for a solo mage? if it is, what if i don't use any of its abilities and just have it equiped for the armour bonus and saving throws bonus? or is it cool to use the special abilities too?

thanks for any input

Well, I think it depends how you use it - scouting ahead whilst having it equipped is pretty sensible. Constantly equipping/unequipping it is definitely cheese IMO - the warrior you're evading would simply slash his sword at the air in front of him and hit you anyway in real life, so I would say it's exploiting the game engine.

Having said that, if you're soloing something like Tactics, then all is fair in love and war..

Solo, no, I don't think it's that cheesy.

However, if you were a kensai->mage, I would say cheese

As long as you're not constantly re-equipping it (to go invisible again), I don't think it's cheesey at all.

Question Mark

There isn't anything cheesy about the Staff of the Magi; use it however you see fit.

Exactly. For a solo mage with low hit points, the staff fulfills its duties. Thats probably why it was made. Mages kept dying.

It isn't cheesy at all. It'd prove useful to equip and then get away from a battle to heal.

Using it to get away after being hit isn't cheesy. Re-equiping it after each attack and continuing to melee is.

Unfortunately that does not qualify as "cheese" because that is how the item is designed.
