Suddenly my henchman has seized bashing chests and now says "I have failed to complete the task"!? I guess its for a reason, but what?

Is it that they start bashing it and give up? They usually do that if they won't be able to finish bashing it. Try getting some arrows or bullets that do elemental damage (like arrows of fire) and doing the job yourself.
If they don't bash it at all, try talking to them and tell them you want to change what they do. Tell them to help you if you fail to open a chest. That should do it.

thats the thing, i havent issued him any new orders, you can only tell him to not bash things if you fail yourself, and i havent done that. He wont even start so its not like hes having a go and then giving up. I can click on a locked chest as if to open it and straight away he will say, I have failed to complete the task?

Maybe he broke his axe or something, um no hes still lopping off heads with it......

i think i might save myself some trouble and and switch to Tomi, then all the chests are belong to me! One thing.....where is Tomi hiding in the halls of justice, ive had an initial look for him and could not find him, is he in a side room or something? to be honest i havent really looked that hard, i grabbed Daelen and ran......

another question, will Tomi be the same level as me when i pick him up? and also i have found no way to level Daelen up while hes been with me, does he just level up automatically as I do? theres no way to access any of his stat sheets so im assuming this...

He's right next to the entrance to the Hall of Justice. He should be saying something along the lines of, "Hey! Do you need a henchman?"
I don't know what level he would be, but henchmen should always be one level lower than you. If you level up, talk to your henchman and there should be an option to say something like, "I'd like you to level up. You'd be more useful to me with some more experience."
If Daelan didn't level up, it might be because he was level 2 or something when you got him... I'm unsure. By the way, what class are you playing?

oh ok, ill be sure to nab him as soon as i get back to the main centre.....i am now level 5, and on talkin to Daelen ive never had an option such as that, just the usual things that dont relate to leveling up....ah well, im switching him anyways.

Im an elven cleric focusing on defensive/offensive buffs. My strength/constitution and wisdom are focus points which make me an effective fighter/caster. Using the longsword as primary choice for weapon. So far ive put points into parry/concentration/lore/spellcraft, not to much right now as lvl 5 is all im at.

That's one of my favorite kinds of characters... unfortunately, they do have trouble getting chests bashed. Traps probably won't be a big problem for a cleric (Find Traps takes care of everything), but with chests, you'll have to rely on elemental damage or henchmen.

The find traps spell removes the traps it find. Which I personaly find offenseively overpowered, but at least its a way to avoid that damage.
