Yup Red has a problem again. Lately i've been thinking a lot about what i'm going to major in, and I really have my mind set on cpu programming. I really like games and such and making a few would be fun right?

Unfortunately it seems cpu programmers need to know an awful lot of math. Not just calculus, but calculus 1, 2, and 3, and hopefully not logic too. Anyway I happen to hate math (a lot) but if I really put effort into it I can make it right? Even Ian's dad (the teacher who supported me on just about everything) called me a *nut* when he heard about this! Thanks for the vote of confidence! What do you guys think?

Math and science, math and science, math and science they always said. Try, and try again. Spoof! I say go with it, have your doubts now because you'll forget them later. And most of all, have a good time doing it. Good luck to you.

Yeah thanks. I've really got my mind set on this. Been thinking about it for a long time too.

You only get one shot at life m'boy. Major in what you really want to major in, regardless of how 'difficult' you think it may be. At least give it a shot. If you succeed then that is superb, if not, try something else.
You really want this right? So to hell with any negative opinions you might recieve from others. Get stuck in and give it an honest whack.

Well when you put it that way I guess I have no choice but to give it my best shot! I'm not saying it'll be easy but i'll make it! Thanks!

Hey I want to be a CPU programmer too. I also hate math but I make low B's.

One of the things my dad used to tell us was that we could learn anything we set our minds to if we took the time to learn it. He was right.
One thing about Math though is that you are going to find a lot of really weird or really anal people teaching it (worst case scnario is to have a really weird anal person teaching you lol). Ask around and get yourself the best instructors....they make the subject easy to understand and learn. Never let a bad instructor think its your fault if you don't get what they are saying.

By all means, do with your life what you want to be doing! Anything else is a waste of precious time.

Not trying to scare you, but programming can be math heavy and is almost all logic. Not all types of programming require an underdstanding of the really advanced math like Calc III or Diff Eq's, but if you are into gaming - especially 3d gaming, you are into some intense algorithms and math.

That said, if you really want it - go for it! I was never teribly great at math (or spelling ), but I could get through it well enough. It took me a while but I finally got my Elec Engineering deg, and my favorite courses were the most math intensive you could find. Also, I had a friend in HS that just got by, but wanted to be a doctor. Everyone adviesed him against it. He graduated top of his class at one of the top 5 med schools.

Don't let nay sayers hold you back. Just set a goal and get it.

Thanks Moni!
When I actually put a *little* effort into my math class (Algebra 2) I pulled a B+ no problem. Yeah calculus 1,2,3 are a lot harder but I think I can handle it right. And why are math teachers always so evil? If they're not evil they're overly cheerful. Hard to decide which ones are worse! Okay maybe not all that hard...

Well I kinda figured it would be math heavy. What would be the point of all the math classes otherwise?

I like *miracle* stories like the one you talked about. Top of his class in one of the top 5 med schools??? Sure showed them didn't he?

LOL Well you probably remember a little about my EVIL Math instructor last semester...if you don't that's OK! You don't want to be reminded LOL!
After pulling a B+ in Introductory Algebra (with a totally weird and anal man lol), and scraping a D off the bottom of my shoe in Elementary Algebra (with a just evil woman who gave me a C out of spite because I complained about her whacked out methods), I have been pulling high A's (95's to 100's) on my homeworks and quizzes this semester having the head of the Math Dept. as my instructor. She makes it SO easy!!!! Not evil, not cheerful, she's very simple about it and just straight to the point with the easiest steps/solutions possible. Next semester I can finally say "College Algebra, Here I Come!" I have my instructor for that class already lined up too lol...asked everyone I could and found out who keeps it simple without being weird or anal about it lol.
