I had one today, and I don't think I want anymore of them. I went to pick up a car for my boss today, and while driving 60 mph, the hood flew up and bent itself around the top of the car. 60 mph, blind to the road in front of me. I was saved by the fact that I have never been known to panic, or I might have been dead. The initial shock still hasn't worn off, I keep thinking about the what if scenarios, and I can't stop. If I'd been 100 feet further, I'd have been in a pretty tight corner, and no more Robert the Bard. It really makes you think about things, and some of those things are better left alone. Don't mean to drag any body down, but I had to share this, or it was going to eat me up. Later.

Sorry to hear that happened to you Robert, glad you are OK and handled the situation well. I understand re it is hard for you to stop thinking about "what ifs", it is a natural thing, and will fade away in time. What in the world made the hood pop up btw? You don't hear of that kind of thing happening often.

Smile Robert the Bard, you are OK, all is well, you did good, made it through the experience OK, that's a good thing!

It was a partially wrecked car, and even though we couldn't get the hood open for anything, I guess the wind can. I'm over the shaking part now, which started as soon as I got into my own car to come home, but it will be with me for a while, I imagine. I don't think I'll sleep it off any way. Thanks all for the support, as I said, I need to vent this, and there's no one here that is able to listen, without trying to just brush it off.

I know what you mean re the shaking Robert. I pulled out on a road when I was 17, was on a hill, and this woman was speeding and popped right up on my left I had no time to react much, but I at least moved out of the way enough to where she only clipped me, just about knocked my entire front bumper off. I remember after the police came, all papers filled out, etc., I had to drive home and my frikken right leg (that uses the gas pedal) would not stop shaking, uncontrollably, my knee was just shaking up and down so much and so fast, I ended up having to use my left leg on the gas pedal (dunno why left leg wasn't so "frightened: LOL, but there you have it). I was Ok though the next morning re the shaking though, but yes, you find yourself more alert and cautious afterwards. There's a lot to say about sleep Robert, you WILL feel a bit better tomorrow when you wake up

Take care of yourself fella *hugs*. You are OK!

been there myself man, it is scary and to not panic takes alot of self control, sometimes the wind coming in at 60 miles per hour plus the speed of the gust can top out at more than 150 miles per hour, glad you made it through ok have another beer on me

I'm impressed. First with the scenario you've painted, and second with the way you handled it. On one level, folks can ask what else you would have done, but I've got a list for 'em... starts with "Mooommmmmmyyyyyy!!!!"

Keeping your cool with something like that is just impressive. Hopefully, any other drivers near you gave you space to operate in.

I did wake up while driving one time and discover the road about 40 yards to my left... fortunately, it was in an undeveloped area, or I'd have been buying a new car (assuming I lived)
