I have a little annoyance problem when playing BGII on Win2k. Whenever I pick up an item in the inventory, the game "lags". It's very annoying and bothersome to have to pick up the same item 5 times just to move it into a Gem Bag or such.

SoA only, both patches (Baldurdash and Official) and a few mods..but I had the same setup on Win98 and everything worked great. No matter how much I tweak the config the lag still remains Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Do you have 3D animations enabled? Try turning it off and using 2D. It works believe me. Is Windows 2k different from ME? If so then in what way? Is better or worse? I'm not sure how either OS reacts to games. I know XP was very picky until I got all the updates in place.

I have 3d animations off, forgot that ^_^

ME is older than 2k, and is horrible at managing games..2k is better.

Any more suggestions? please

W2K is the Professional/Business OS (in the line of Windows NT) and ME is Home OS (in the line of Windows 9x). When they put out Windows XP, they call both lines XP; however, still differeniates XP Professional and XP Home editions.

basically, 9x line (95, 98, ME, XP Home) is better gaming OS line, while NT line (NT4, WK2, XP Pro) is more workstation/business orientated. Say, if you want to make a compuer game, you use NT line, and you play the game with 9x line. In many cases, Windows 98 is still the best/stable gaming OS now.

I had problems with 98 and RAM management. I had to restart after every game I played, and 98 didnt see I had 384 RAM available, it only reported 128 maximum.

Guess I'm S.O.L

I think 98 can only read 256 RAM max. the point is tough, if you have a 98 system specially for gaming, 256 RAM can manage all current/past games, probably except for few, most fashionable, flashy games. But as more and more high end games come out, I would recommend to use XP (get all patches and updates of course) Home edition. W2K is designed for business and professional uses, if you try some older game with it, it either cannot work properly or cannot work at all (my experience, Dungeon Keeper 2 cannot work on W2K, and then they came up with a W2K patch, but isn't stable at all; No One Lives Forever, to some point of the game, will freeze or crash on W2K, which will work fine in 9x line systems). I think in XP, MS did lots of combining 9x and NT, and becuasue of rising popularity of gaming worldwide, they really make XP gaming friendly (of course, you need to keep constantly updating XP).

ADD: btw, simply run 3D mark on both 9x and NT lines, you'll see 9x always give better scores.

So far, W2k has worked great for every game except BGII..Even some older DOS games worked fine on it. BGII just has that item pickup lag which is annoying. Guess I'll have to live with it though..I'm not gonna go out and buy XP just to get rid of a minor inconvenience.
