When I find out if I have got to the uni I want, I get my book list.
In the mean time, buying books for my sister's philosophy course... Ouch. Even second hand online. We still haven't managed to find some of them yet.

It's been a very looong time since I attended college fulltime and this problem existed all the way back then. There was a thriving used book store just off campus with a large selection of most general ed books. Fortunately, I transferred to another college that was (a) closer to home and (b) didn't force students to buy books. We returned our books to the campus book store at the end of each semester.
I did have to purchase two textbooks for a course I took this summer at the local community college. Two books were over $50. That could add up in a big hurry if I had been taking more than one class.

$74 for a flimsy communications book, $274 for International Management, and $126 for Active Training, which rounded out my 2008 summer trimester. The most I ever signed for was a Marketing pack, text, workbook, and a nice sample kit, was just over $300.
My Graduate will *not* be a full rider, the first book for the first class is going to cost me a days salary (ouch). Thankfully, tuition will be covered.

Once they realize that they are no longer selling many of one particular book (because there are too many out and people just buy them used for other people) they come out with the next edition of the book.

Same old same old! All the universities I have been to 93-98 had bookstores that took back the books they would reuse for a smaller price and resell them. A few of my books were even valuable in the industry I was working in in 98-99 and still are if I did not switch fields. There were times were if we knew a book would not be used much. We would buy one book for the class and photocopy the needed pages than discard those pages at the end of the year. I think it is illigal but how many times did I get handouts from Proffs that were photcopied from a book we were not using.

It certainly was illegal
![]() When I was getting my Master's degree, the university started formally tracking and charging for all those photocopies. That way, they could address the copyright issues. I kept most of my books in my major, but got rid of the rest. In retrospect, I could have gotten rid of most of those as well... I haven't had much chance to study French grammar in the last few years... ![]()
