Hello, All:

Haven't been here since forever, thrilled to see you still exist.

My game system died, and I'm really jonesing for a replacement.

I want a new desktop with a good flat screen and good enough graphics to play all the current stuff. I don't do any online gaming right now, if that matters.

I've been thinking Mac, mostly because Bill Gates has got enough of my money, but from what I can see a lot of great games aren't available for that platform: true?

What processor and graphics cards would you reccomend-- I don't need the absolute best, but I do want something good enough that it will still be able to play stuff that won't be released for a couple years.

Thanks,
Oru

Welcome Back

For Gaming stay away from the mac unless you dual boot into Windows as most games are not ported across to mac.

Grab yourself a Core2Duo CPS along with a large HDD and 2GB of RAM and you should be setup for a while.

Get the PCI-E cards with a compatible motherboard and again you should be right. If you want future proofing make sure your motherbord can support the cards running in SLI.

I'd suggest an 8800 GTX for your graphics card, it's a serious monster of a thing. If you give it a chance to drop a bit in price, it should be good, dx10 compatible.

As for Mac: Yes, about 99% of all games are PC or console only, the Mac really gets skipped over for all of the very biggest titles, and even then it sometimes gets ignored. Very much not recommended as a gaming platform.

Make sure to get a serious power supply, all of my latest problems have been a faulty power supply.

I would suggest waiting a little while for the video card though, not just because the R600 chip whoops the 8800 (which I do thinkis a good card) but because the price of Nvidia's cards will drop when it comes out
