Hi all,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I need help and many more people are here than at the ToB Forum.

I was very excited when I recently bought ToB ad installed it on my computer. A funny thing happened whenever I try to play it, though. I have 2 CD drives installed on my computer:

E: a CDROM and F: a CDRW.

When I want to play the game it keeps telling me to put the game CD in F:. I don't want to constantly use the $125 CDRW drive to play a game seeing as how the $40 CDROM works just as well and is cheaper to replace due to eventual wear&tear.

How can I make the game run the CD off the CDROM? Can anyone help me with this?

If the CDROM and the CDRW are on the same IDE channel make sure the CDROM is set as master. Otherwise try disabling the CDRW in Device Manager, run the game once from the CDROM, then reenable the CDRW and see if that fixes it. Is ToB the only game your comp is doing that with? What operating system are you using?

Yes, ToB is the only game that has done this. SoA was working fine off the CDROM before the ToB install. Wierd, huh?

I am running Windows98.

Thanks for the tip about the master/slave IDE controller. I'll try that tomorrow.

Did you install ToB from the CD-RW?

In any case, load regedit and search for baldurs gate keys. I cant find the relevant key on this system, so youll have to do it yourself.

Or it might be easier to install the no-cd crack (You do have a full install right?). Its not too easy to find these days, and the site i got it on was in french. If you want Ill mail it to you. PM me.

Version I have is mildly glitched, cant see any text in it, but you just have to click the button at the bottom and it works.

Maybe ToB needs a slightly faster drive than your CD drive is. I spent a month and a half trying everything to get NWN to work before I realized that the CD drive didn't spin fast enough and I had to put it in the DVD drive.

That sounds stragne but I guess it can't be in my case. My CDROM is 48x read vs 32x read on the CDRW.

I will try installing again (making sure to install from the CDROM).
