I've heard great things about Morrowind & Neverwinter Nights. I hesitate to pick these titles up however as I am prone to motion sickness if the game is played thru' a first person perspective. Games like Doom, Quake, etc are not for me (not that I liked the genre anyway) as the constant movement & turning made me so sick I felt like throwing up. It gave me a bad headache too.

I had the same experience playing the Wizardry 8 demo, so that's out for me too. I was told that MW uses the same 1st-person perspective thing. If true then I guess I'll have to give a miss on what some people say to be an awesome RPG.

What about NWN? I saw a few copies on sale the other day and I was sorely tempted to buy it.

On well, if the worst comes to the worst there's always IWD2 to look forward to! Not enough time in the world to play all these games anyway...

Well... NWN has no first person perspective in it, and MW can be played from 3rd person as well. Not sure about whether it'd cause motion sickness, never experienced that myself with games...

It causes motion sickness because theres a disparity between the motion you see and the motion you feel.

This is not quite the same as travel sickness. Most people get travel sick to some degree, but far fewer get sick playing first person. Theres a strong psychological component to it as well, otherwise the same effect would be observed in third person.

Some sufferers report that changing monitors, sitting further away or sometimes just taking a break every half an hour helps. You can probably find more info on google.

Motion sickness while playing CRPG's is a real downer. It seems to vary from game to game, as well. It affected me for Half Life and Wizardry 8

A few suggestions that may help ..

Ginger is good for preventing mild motion sickness. Try ginger beer ( with real ginger, not artificial flavour ) or ginger tablets ( available from health food shops )
Take frequent short breaks.
Stick a post-it note on the side on your monitor.
Make sure the room is well ventilated and not too warm. ( You can also try directing the breeze from a portable fan on yourself as well )

Flat screen monitors are also a lot better than the rounded-screen ones. The biggest complaint about motion sickness in CRPG's comes from the "goldfish-bowl" effect that you usually get on the rounded-screen monitors.

Thanks for all the tips. When I played the Wiz 8 demo, I didn't last 5 minutes before I had to stop, lol.
The funny thing is that I don't get sea-sick, car-sick or plane-sick (unless there's very severe turbulence). Oh well it's just one of those things in life.
Maybe when I'm done with my second go-around of BG2 & IWD2 (yes, I plan to get it) I'll give the demos a try. Then again, I need another game that distorts the space-time continuum (what? 3 am already? Where'd all the time go?) like I need a hole in the head, lol.

I had that problem. In the end, I cured it by spinning around in my chair 100 times really fast before playing NWN. I certainly don't get sick DURING the playing time any more!

Note: This may not work for everyone.

Further Note: I STILL haven't got past the prologue after 3 months.
